Tarnicus: ... This giveaway should conclude tomorrow depending on how the extraction goes. ...

DeMignon: Nice, looking forward to it.
I hope you got good news yesterday and you're fine.
My ultrasounds aren't until September 2nd(gah to waiting!) as that was the earliest appointment I could get. I figured I may as well get the blood tests done after the extraction, so those will be the same day as the ultrasounds. My energy really picked up today so I'm feeling positive - it's the best way to be with this sort of thing :)

mondo84: Thanks for an amazing giveaway, Tarnicus. :)

I'm in like Flynn!

My favorite anime comes from Studio Ghibli. Miyazaki and others have made some amazing films, and the one that stands out most to me is probably Grave of the Fireflies by Isao Takahata. It is a very, very sad movie that stays with you forever. I consider the movie essential viewing for all people on this planet. It's a movie about two children, a brother and sister, struggling to survive in the aftermath of the bombing of Kobe near the end of WW2. The movie is not about who is right or who is wrong. It is simply a very human story about the terrible effects that war can have on society and children. It is a haunting film, but there is also a sad beauty throughout. The music is quite amazing, too.

This may not be the most uplifting anime work mentioned, but again it's such an important movie. I consider Grave of the Fireflies to be one of the best anti-war films ever and easily a top 5 animated movie of all time. It's quite a difficult film to watch, but out of the many films I've seen, anime or live-action, GotF is one that always comes to mind when I think of great movies.
Thank you very much for the reminder to grab this again. I agree that it is one of the most amazing movies/anime ever made :)

oasis789: I'm in like Flynn! Thanks!!

Anime: Psycho-pass. A recent uro-butcher epic, a kind of police procedural thriller/mystery set in a totalitarian future where all human psychology is quantified and surveilled. Very clever, thoughtful, meta-aware stuff, with characters discussing phillip k dick, classic science fiction and philosophy. One of the very few series of the 2012/2013 era that is a must-watch, with almost none of the usual anime tropes (high school, harems, fan service etc).
This sounds brilliant!! Right up my alley, thank you :)

If you like this one, you might like other works by the same guy: Madoka Magica from a couple years ago was critically acclaimed by pretty much everyone, and Gargantia was also a big favorite from this past season. However, just like Psycho-pass, for all of these it is best NOT TO SPOIL THE PLOT for yourself by reading wikipedia or anime summaries etc. Just watch them. The BD rips are probably out by now if you want to treat yourself to some hi10p quality stuff though of course you need to configure that.

Hotaru No Haka (a.k.a. Grave Of The Fireflies), it has to be the saddest anime movie ever, and probably one of the most heartbreaking movies ever made... Watch it prepared... (-_-)
Am getting the list together to draw this shortly, so if anyone wants to sneak in an entry before it closes, now is the time to do it :)

I watched this one because everyone was saying that it was very sad, would make you cry, etc. but after watching, I was emotionally unaffected. I was distracted by the English dub... especially whenever the name "Setsuko" was mentioned because the pronunciation did not sound right. Maybe I'll try to look for a copy with Japanese audio and watch it again when I have the time.

Watching dubbed movies (in general, not only anime) is never a good idea. The process always affect the original audio, even if they use the original background sound, also the syncing and overall, the whole experience. I always recommend watching a movie or series with the original audio, whenever is possible.

The only anime I can remember which I really loved was Spirited Away, which I'm guessing everyone has already seen. If by any strange chance someone hasn't seen it, though, I can wholeheartedly recommend it.

Are you into manga too? If so, I might be able to recommend something a little unusual.
Yes I'm into manga also :) Great name you have there (herbalism is one of my passions) :)

I also prefer watching with the original audio and I can't stand dubs, but when I watched Hotaru no Haka, the only copy available was the dubbed one. Hopefully, I'll be able to find a copy with the original audio. :)
I'm in like Flynn! I just wonder which Flynn. Erroll Flynn? Flynn Rider?

Spinorial: Well, I couldn't very well miss this one, what with being in the title post and all. So I'm in like Flynn!
So out of the 135 entries for this giveaway, random.org chose one of my favourite numbers - 42 - yes The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy is my favourite book. And the winner is your Spinorial! I find that very fitting given you gifted me my 500th Steam game, and I swear it wasn't rigged! lol Congrats mate :)

Edit: tooth extraction went really well, and yes I'm feeling enjoyably giddy from a combination of meds :P

Let me first say, I'm really happy to see you back! I mean, you never know what can happen in those places, where they do that medicinal witchcraft :-)

Also, thanks! Now, let's see what's at stake...
Congrats Spinorial and thanks again Tarnicus :)
