Thanks to Spinorial buying me my 500th game on Steam (compared to a mediocre 171 on GoG), I'm having a celebratory giveaway for my new Steam title "Director of Acquisitions" :)

Yes I'm a game-hoarder. It is my favourite addiction and is far healthier than some I've had :P After giving away my entire game collection of 200 or so games in 2010, I felt and hollowness that needed to be filled, and thanks to GoG and various other game sites, I've managed to get that collection back and then some!

I like to share, to give a little positive energy to others as I have been blessed this lifetime with much positivity from others. So enough babbling, here are the prizes and conditions:

1. Unlike my other giveaways, this prize is for one lucky person. The prize is $20 worth of GoG, Steam or bundled games(Humble Bundle, Groupees, Bundlestars, Indiegala and Indieroyale) as you see fit, and it can be a combination of all adding up to $20. Take into account that games on Steam are often priced higher in Australia than the rest of the world, so your $10 game on Steam could be lots more here. That means we'll have to confirm before purchasing to ensure it fits into my budget of $20.

2. You are free to gift/giveaway your prize as you see fit. Yes you can enter for someone else.

3. The competition ends when I post "the competition has ended" as close to my payday (Wednesday 28th August Australian Eastern Standard time - nb that is Tuesday for most of the rest of the world). I am getting a tooth extracted that day, so am unsure if I will be able to log on - it's a molar full of amalgam that has been making me rather ill.

4. The competition is open to everyone who has registered May 2013 or earlier with 25+ rep or 100+ rep and registered after May 2013.

5. As I have recently been introduced to some great new anime by members of this site in the ninja giveaway thread, to gain an additional entry, simply write a paragraph(or longer if you wish) review of your favourite anime series or anime movie. It doesn't matter if someone else has already mentioned the anime. If you're struggling to choose, pick your favourite fantasy or historical anime as that is my favourite sub-genre.

6. Given finances are pretty tight this pay, I need to get the prize sorted as close to payday as possible :) If I can't sort something by Friday(my time), I'll choose another winner.

7. Winners will be chosen randomly by Random.org.

8. Please type in bold I'm in like Flynn! to enter :P

Good luck all, I'll edit this first post to announce the winner for ease of navigation :)

Edit: Congratulations Spinorial PM sent so you can figure out what you want to spend your prize money on. Very fitting that out of 135 entries, you won! :)

Edit: The prizes have been given, and a massive +11 for Spinorial sharing the love. Rather than choose anything for himself, he chose to give FLY'N Soundtrack edition on Steam to Samlii, Arx Fatalis on GoG to Ian and UFO: Aftermath on GoG to QC. All of whom are great members of this community :)

I could reel off a dozen or so classics, but I'll focus on one favourite from back in the day instead:

The Mysterious Cities of Gold.

I think pretty much anyone who grew up in the UK during the 80s will remember this series with some affection: for many it would be their first exposure to anime and for others it was just a great adventure.

Set in the high medieval era (or therabouts), it revolves around the story of Esteban; who, in search of his father ends up joining a ragtag band of misfits who in turn are looking for one of the fabled cities of gold in the new world.
I wont bother you with too many spoilers, but the series covered ancient secrets, forbidden technologies and some other weird stuff.
Great tea time viewing when you're a kid, yet I also found as an adult there were more subtle thigns going on that gave it rewatch value.

Game hoarding go. If someone told me 10 years ago I would've had hundreds of games on PC I would not have believed myself.

EDIT: Jojo's Bizarre Adventure (2013) is the second adaptation of the long running fabulous manga by Hiroiko Araki, who is most likely a real life unaging vampire lord. It is a fight anime in general, but starts as what would be victorian horror mixed with FIST OF THE NORTH STAR. With fabulous magic. Amazing use of its budget for flashy as hell fight scenes, great music, an unmatched sense of FABULOUS STYLE and basically just outrageousness. It does not bother with cheap melodrama, it does not take long to get into the thick of things, and it is just the best goddamn thing you can see or read.

Next year they are making an adaptation of part 3. Get hype. Part 3 is pretty much what inspired the mechanics in the Persona games, with the shade Stands representing part of the stand wielder's being as a separate, yet linked entity with a plethora of special skills. If part 2 (which was included in this year's season) upped the ante and exageratedness and crazyness of the fights and events, part 3 blows it up to the stratosphere.

The JJBA fighting games are based on part 3. Heavily recommended.

Edit: The first season counts as historical, since the first half of the events happen in the 19th century, and the second half of the first season happens in the 1930's or so.

My favorite anime series:
Evangelion. It started out as a typical shounen mecha anime with a monster of the week format then about halfway through the series it got darker and became a serious character study on human relationships (or maybe it doesn't mean anything at all), ending in a total mindf*ck (see Komm, süsser Tod sequence in End of Evangelion). And there's Rebuild of Evangelion, which started out as a remake of the original series but with better animation and a less screwed up cast of characters, then Evangelion 3.0 happened.

I haven't been into too much manga but I recently enjoyed the Hellsing series. I kind of liked the idea of ancient, all powerful vampires and the Hellsing organization fighting supernatural monsters. It sort of falls apart at the end but has a great premise and wind up.

edit- and cowboy bebop was great too

Thanks for the giveaway, Tarnicus! I'd recommend FLCL (or Fooly Cooly, as it is sometimes known). It is my favorite anime of all time! It's only six episodes, but those six episodes are the best six episodes of any cartoon I've ever seen. Just to give you an idea of how hard it is to pin down the genre of FLCL, Netflix describes it as being, roughly, "Yellow Submarine with robots as an allegory for teenage angst". Also, it's got a killer soundtrack. You must watch!

LUUUUNCH TIIIIME!
You got to be kidding me: Tron: Uprising of course. Hence I'm in like Flynn!.

Obviously you know that one. After the rather disappointing release of Tron: Legacy, I gave the anime spin-off Uprising a chance. Turns out to be the best the Tron franchise has to offer. While both Tron (1982) and Tron: Legacy (2010) are visually exceptional, they're all in all just mediocre. Not so Tron: Uprising. The anime style is on par with the movies, but character development and story are much more compelling. Clear recommendation for anime fans and even for guys who usually don't care for this genre but have seen Tron on VHS (or even in cinema).

I'm not much of an anime fan, but I first saw the animated movie version of Akira when it was first released in the US. Wow! Such a powerful experience! At the time, the only thing I had seen that looked similar was the Saturday morning cartoon Battle of the Planets, and that did not at all prepare me for giant mutating baby-tentacle-expanding brain-things that I was seeing with my eyes! The story is a cautionary nuclear danger story but also about friendship, being different, loneliness, the tempatations of power, and psionic abilities gone kerblonkers! Also motorcycles! And it is not cutesy at all, nor sexy, both of which have ruined several of my later attempts at enjoying anime. Watch it watch it watch it!

later I found it Akira is a many volume huge-ass manga which I am unwilling to purchase. Pfffffft!

Cheers! and thank you for a generous giveaway!
