Johnathanamz: No person here is saying a monopoly is fine.

We or at least what I am reading on the gog.com forums is that most of us PC gamers want all PC versions of video games to be released for sale on gog.com, Battle.net, Bethesda.net, Origin, Steam, uPlay, and any other 3rd party website selling PC versions of video games on the internet like greenmangaming.com or whatever, etc and as well as the video game developers selling the video games on their own websites.

I am not sure where you see a person here saying they want a video game sold exclusively one one digital distribution retailer service or the other on the internet.

We are asking for FREEDOM OF CHOICE WHERE WE WANT TO PURCHASE THE PC VERSIONS OF VIDEO GAMES FROM. Not to be forced to have them be sold in one place only.

amok: So where where you when Project Warlock was released exclusively on gOg? Where is my freedom of choice to buy Forgotten Realms games? Why did you not make a thread about any of these or other games?
Are gog.com versions of the PC versions of video games not sold on humblebundle.com?

The last time I checked humblebundle.com was in 2015 and I saw some 100% Digital Rights Management (DRM) free gog.com versions of video games were sold on humblebundle.com.

So there you have it if gog.com versions of video games are still sold on humblebundle.com you can purchase Project Warlock from humblebundle.com then.

Were you ever able to purchase Half-Life 2 from humblebundle.com?

For the Forgotten Realms games, is there even any demand for it? It does cost $100 to publish on steam but if no one is buying is there even a point? I don't recall anyone even coming into these forums and asking about it. A quick search of the forgotten realms forums for steam turns up a couple of posts that have nothing to do with valve distribution. Have you even tried contacting GoG to see if they will distribute on Steam?

[...]
No ,they are not. Back then it was only one or two games (Witcher and Defenders Quest)., but they do not do it anymore. So you have not answered my question.

Johnathanamz: For making the PC version of Metro Exodus to be sold on the Epic Games store instead of on gog.com, Epic Games store, and Steam.

I know you guys are letting Deep Silver and Koch Media be run independently, but doing exclusives like this is Anti-Customer.

If it's twelve months exclusive whatever, but still.

I am making this topic here because THQ Nordic reads the gog.com forums.

Not gonna post a comment on the Epic Games forums or THQ Nordic's forums, because gog.com is the place I use.

Yep it will be twelve months exclusive.

www.resetera.com/threads/metro-exodus-for-pc-is-a-timed-exclusive-for-the-epic-games-store-steam-preorders-hon oured-physical-copy-has-steam-key.96225/#post-17328886

Still a shame.
Except it was Deep Silver/Koch Media's choice. THQ/Nordic I'm assuming may not have weighed in on that decision at all.

That said, DS/4A made their choice on this. I own all 5 games and books by the author, so I'd say I have a hugely invested interest in the property. I was fairly ticked off by the fact that the dev basically called anyone unwilling to download Epic's platform "not true fans." Like...what?! I've spent full prices on ALL those games, and I've supported their studio from the get go, but I am NOT taking a bite out of a massive shit sandwich (Epic) just because your publisher made a terrible short term cash based decision.

I run Galaxy, Steam and B.Net primarily. I have Uplay and Origin, but I frankly NEVER use them. I'm not going to sign up to another, that lacks security, doesn't adhere to EU's business laws, and is partially owned by a company that sells user data to the Chinese government.

I'm not making a choice to boycott the game. THEY made that choice for me. So, instead of threats, review bombs or pirating, all of which is asinine, imo, I'll wait the twelve months. See if the reviews are good, wait for a sale, then purchase it when Steam inevitably sells it at a much lower pricepoint because it's a year old game.

Thank goodness that I didn't preorder this time.

Obviously some people do not bother to read my whole entire topic where I said I know THQ Nordic lets Koch Media and Deep Silver run independently.

THQ Nordic still can have a say over Koch Media and Deep Silver because THQ Nordic purchased them.

That would defeat the point of Koch Media/DS operating independently. I'm sure THQ Nordic can voice their concerns, but for all we or you know, they could have operating clauses that prevents them from directly interfering, so until you or someone has proof of the contrary, I feel like you're misdirecting your ire towards the wrong people.
avatar
Spectre: That's a meaningless difference. If you wanted to play those games then your stuck with steam even if you bought it out of a shop with a disc.Steam also broke multiplayer for lots of games to force people onto steam.
avatar
lumengloriosum: Not at all, the key difference is the decision of the publisher/developer. If that game is locked to Steam, it's the fault of the developer/publisher because such things are not and were not mandatory. Multiplayer servers too aren't tied to Steam, servers such as the Red Orchestra 2 franchise.

On the other hand with Epic, it's time bound to the store, where the publisher/developer agrees to limitations of stores to sell their games on.

Thus for Steam, the developer/publisher chooses DRM as optional, and Epic contractually obligates the publisher/developer to use only their store for a certain period of time or indefinetely.
How do you know RO2 developers weren't paid to be on Steam? A similar case is the Bohemia interactive removing OperationFlashpoint or Arma games from GoG around the time of Arma 3 release.

Nah I am directing my disappointment to exactly the right people.

Actually I am not that disappointed anymore since they said they will be selling Metro Exodus on the Epic Games store for twelve months only.

I am disappointed in Activision, Bethesda Softworks, Blizzard Entertainment, and Electronic Arts (EA), followed by SONY last.

How do you know what Nordic has a say in or not? Have you read the contract from their purchase of Koch Media? They may not have any say... it all depends on the terms of the purchase agreement.
