Are there games that you purchased but then wished you hadn't?

My biggest regret lately was Mordheim. It wasn't expensive... and I'd watched a lot of gameplay videos prior... but for some reason each time I played, it just sucked the energy out of me. Fun? Dead. Gone. And then the fact that the game is clearly geared toward online play (something I hate) didn't help. Strangely, I also bought the quite similar Blackguards games... and had HUGE frustration with them... but found those quite compelling (even purchasing BG2 AGAIN on PS4!).

I'm sure there's more, but will have to think on it.

Deus Ex, Baldur's Gate, Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines... a fair few on top of that.

May I ask why you regret the purchases?
Old Fallouts (1, 2, tactics). Missed their free distribution due to real life obligation and nasty accident/mishap at the time... Then bought them after their return. But they missed all extras and GOG never negotiated readding them, as promised.

Crypt of the Necrodancer. Too hard for me. Never learnt to play. Never went past 3d stage, either. I only hear its soundtracks. Damn.

Darksiders 3. I don't like it in the least bit. It's totally different than 1 or 2. I actually HATE its gameplay and style of play. Never went past first boss.

Die by the Sword and Limb from Limb. I bought it, because people said its like Blade of Darkness. Well, NOTHING like it, not even remotely close. And has some graphics/speed glitches in conjuction with few crashes, here and there.

Alladin/Jungle Book/Lion King. I didn't want to buy them. Bought them because they were being removed. And my ex sweetie loves Disney figures, especially princesses, so it actually pains me, to house them in my bookcase, display them on my shelf, in GOG.

Double Dragon Trilogy. Sucks a$$. Worst game i bought in here, like, ever.

Fight'N'Rage. Too hard. No, really, TOO hard! And nothing like my beloved Streets of Rage; the fangame of which, i demolished thoroughly, through and through, in the highest difficulty setting.

Sacred 1/2. Hey, those weren't Diablo clones exactly. And for some reason, both design and gameplay, weren't to my liking at all...

Saints Row 2/3. Same as above, except replace Diablo with GTA.

The original Strife Veteran edition. Same as above, except replace GTA with Cybermage.

Thronebreaker the Witcher Tales. Nah. Didn't like it, after all.

Torchlight 2. For some unfathomable reason, i found it boring and repetitive. I also liked 1 better, i think. Never progressed in it, past act 2.

That's all, folks!!!
I can't think of any purchase I regret, I don't need to put that much time into a game to feel I got the value I want out of it. What I do regret to is putting way too much time into games that become like habitual Skinner boxes. Before I know it, I've wasted time on something I realize I didn't even enjoy that much.

If that counts, I regret buying Binding of Isaac: Rebirth for that reason. I wish I never owned it since it wasted my time while giving me very little in return.

Edit: was it a bug or does GOG censor you if you swear too much?

Transistor
- Flashy, but feels kinda soulless to me. It's a story game pretending to be an action game. The action was not bad either, but I could never get myself to play through the whole thing.
It IS pretty though.

Avernum 1, 2
- I'm not very needy when it comes to graphics, but man this series, as well as his other games, is so barebones. And not in a way that I like. I recently bought Caves of Qud, and that's also not very heavy on the graphics, but it's got style. This does not. Dull combat as well.
I think his series are a love it or hate it kind of deal.

Desperados
- Just not my kind of game.

Hellmut
- Super average twin stick shooter. Includes everything all other games of the genre has. Different guns, starting characters, multiple bosses. unlockables. There's just much better options in this over-saturated genre.

Not coincidentally, these were bought when I first started using GOG a lot, which is also when I started buying games in general a lot. So I guess I was just excited to buy games without doing too much reading about them other than a couple of reviews.

e: Reasons put up, for anyone who reads dis.

Amnesia: The Dark Descent.

I actually pre-ordered that. IIRC it's the only game I've pre-ordered. And I didn't like it at all.

Still, they ended up making SOMA which I got for free here at some point and it's not too bad, so maybe my small contribution towards their uncertain success ended up doing something good even if I didn't like the immediate result. Shrug.

(Amnesia was on the verge of being cancelled due to budget issues, but they managed to release it and it was quite successful)

Clarry, you mentioning pre-ordering reminded me of another of my regrets...

Red Dead Redemption 2.

I absolutely love Red Dead Redemption (probably my 2nd favorite game of all time) and never imagined the sequel would be -- IMO -- such a train wreck. I forced myself to keep playing... hoping it would finally get "fun"... but it never did... and I just gave up. IMHO RDR2 is a prime example of how a game must be more than gorgeous graphics to be a great game; it's a beautiful game, but not compelling in the least.

(I have high hopes for This is My Land to be a solid answer to this game.)

Prior to RDR2, my biggest regret was...

Mafia 3.

A great setting marred by horribly repetitive gameplay and an unengaging story. If the gameplay was fixed and the story was about a Vietnam vet tracking down a serial killer (much like the "Sign of the Times" dlc mixed with True Detective), this could have been a great game... but as a Mafia franchise game -- with poor gameplay -- it was pretty terrible.

I only regret in a way buying way more games than I will ever be able to play. I don't regret any single purchase though.

+1
That is exactly what I think about it.

To be honest there was just one game I regret I bought, it was done through a Piñata lottery with mystery game, I sent a request to tech. support to remove the game. Lesson learnt: I hate lotteries and surprises ;)

Well that's part of the Pinata game, no? I've never requested a refund on some "random" games from those sales. Even though I got a few I know I'll never play. Seems like cheating to me to do so.
I don't regret purchasing Diablo 3 as a whole but I do regret purchasing it at launch because I could not play it because of the always online DRM and lack of a single player mode. It was only a few weeks after launch that Diablo 3 was playable.

Megadimension Neptunia VIIR weapons and Armor DLC because it was worse than the DLC in the Original game.

Neptunia U Action Unleashed because the game sucked and it's the worse spin off in the Neptunia Series.

Fairy Fencer F because of Fairy Fencer Advent of Dark Force was released.

Not many. One was I think shadowrun or some such on 360/ps3....it wasn't related to the series I thought it was.

I also liked Homefront a bit but found it a bit meh due to the constant ads(one level is basically an ad as a level) and short gameplay.

I'm guessing he was being sarcastic....those are some of the best games for most people.

Yes, I'm a cheater, a bad person, that's why I specifically mentioned in my request that I don't need a refund only game removal. Maybe it's because I haven't started the game, or because of their policies, but my GOG wallet was replenished for the exact sum of money. Still, I feel ashamed, that's why no lottery for me.
Ys I & II

I really tried to like those games, but damn! The bump system is terrible. Terrible!!! I couldn't kill one single enemy.
