SSX On tour/PSP (this morning, singleplayer)
Call of Duty 5 isn't a perfect game, but it's the one game that everybody I know has, so we can play it online.
SSX on the other hand IS perfect. The controls are intuitive, but that doesn't mean they're easy. Basically, this is a game that you can't master by learning button presses, or learning the tracks: You've got to develop a feel for what you can do when and go with it. The only real problem with the PSP version is that it stutters briefly when a new song starts. I wish this type of game would return to the PS3, bui right now it seems like everyone is busy making complex and unresponsive control schemes (see Shaun White and the newer Tony Hawk's)
You seem to hate on Tony Hawk. Have you tried Skate 2?
I absolutely love the Tony Hawk titles, before Underground. Simplistic controls, that still allow for much variation. I've seen 4 people playing TH2 together and each one would tackle the levels differently: While I was going for trickless grinds with jumps and manuals to drive up the multiplier, one of the other ones was trying to do trick grinding. Another one was doing jumps over obstacles the last one was sticking to the halfpipe. It was perfect. The newer games on the other hand have strange controls, overcomplicated levels and equally important sloppy programming: The framerate drops regularly, which is unforgivable for PS3 games with such a budget and fast gameplay.
About Skate: Only tried the first one (actually bought it after reading all those great reviews) and was sorely disappointed. It's really taking all the "improvements" of recent Tony Hawk titles to the next level: Even more complicated controls, levels that are filled with tiny holes and jumps that you don't see until it's too late and no feeling of speed. No, definitely not for me.
