mossah: wouldnt they pull ultima from abadonia if they were releasing it here? like they did with realms of arkania?

If (and its a big if) it's Ultima they may wait before announcing it to the abandonware sites. Otherwise someone would have checked by now and popped into here to say "He guys its Ultima <link>"

davstern: You are wrong. All of you. On Thursday GOG.com will present their first own game. 'Moherowe Berety' or 'Zibeline Hats' made on Dawn of War engine. And it's going to be a true classic. A modern story of chapter of elderly polish catholic fanatics, fighting to spread the word of their eternal god Father Rydzyk, sitting on the golden throne in his fortress in the city of Torun, Poland.
Moherowe Berety will fight against every one, who stands against their vision of the Empire of Poland. Game will include missions against: Zerg Swarm, European Union, Shivans, Muslims, Klingon Empire, homosexuals, Kilrathi, Platforma Obywatelska, Rebel Scum and Imperial Fleet, liberals, orcs and US of A.
Because in the world of 'Moherowe Berety' there is only war.
GOG.com will distribute the game for free. If you are not going to play it, consider yourself as an enemy of Moherowe Berety. And if you afraid to play the game remember... Cowards die in shame ;-)

There we go. Someone finally has hacked GOG servers and got announcement secret.
Ask and it will be given to you. :D
Just to push back a little against what seems to be the overall consensus at this point, I think the whole "it's the publisher, stupid" approach to the hints could be a mistake. Sure, if GOG gets developer X or game Y that naturally means that publisher Z is involved in some form or another, but (just to restate the obvious) it still comes down to exactly what games are included in the deal, and it may not be even close to the entirety of the potential retro catalogue of a single larger publisher. And while GOG could possibly add more games from the same publisher later on, there's no guarantee that they will be able to.
Thus, as far as speculation goes I think we get a whole lot more (relatively speaking) out of continuing to ponder the significance of the hints and their exact wording as it relates to specific game titles, rather than trying to infer some kind of seemingly logical but ultimately even more speculative link from game X to developer Y to publisher Z.

Arteveld: Sure it had it's moments.. So did that Will Smith Does Drunk Superhero. But moments don't make a movie for me. ;) H2G2 is just now a good concept movie i guess.;)

Absolutely but you were already a fan. The object of the movie was to make it watchable for people who had never heard of H2G2 before and in that respect based on box office and DVD sales it succeeded.
It's Pinball Construction Set from EA!!
Bard's Tale Trilogy!!
Ultimate Wizard!!
And... oh yes... Ultima

well, they could have pulled it several months ago to seem less inconspicuous.

I tend not to judge the movie by the original idea, be it a radio show, or a book.
Really. I didn't go berserk on LOTR either. ;)
Maybe it was a commercial success, but You know, so was Modern Warfare.. ;P

Sadnasser: Bard's Tale Trilogy!!

But I wouldn't go far with that assumption .:)

As someone who contributes to Abandonia, basically what happens is if one of our members notices something is available for sale, one of our main members (that is, those with the relevant access!) removes the download links. If anyone then asks why the download is no longer there, we point them to the place where you can buy it.

Abandonware sites may not pull down games if they are not available for sale yet. They are already skirting legality as it is. Unless they receive a cease and desist order from EA they are unlikely to hurry.

cp96alumni: I have two guesses.
1.) 7th Guest and 11th Hour?
or
2.) Zork Series (Zork 1, 2, etc. Nemesis, Zero)
avatar
Delixe: How would either of those guesses be the biggest announcement in the history of GOG?

Doesn't Activision own the old Infocom rights?
However, I think the Zork trilogy is free already - I know for sure Zork I is, as well as Zork:The Undiscovered Underground.
How long until another hint comes up?

BoxOfSnoo: Doesn't Activision own the old Infocom rights?

I think so. Sierra had them last that I am aware.
Interesting. Just checked that abandonware site with dogs in the name and only Ultima IV is still there...
Keep in mind that Activision didn't retain all of the Sierra rights. A lot of them were scattered all over the landscape.

Two per day, maybe?
surely tomorrow...
