I have been begging for a 2DS since the 3DS's inception. This is great news for me, but the screens are exactly like the original 3DS, not the XL. Will wait for a 2DS XL.

Elmofongo: Aaand still no second control stick.....yeah.
It's also clearly going to be incompatible with the existing Circle Pad Pro addons so those wanting one would have to buy it yet again.

If they even bother to release that for the 2DS and I suspect... NOT.
I too thought this must surely be a joke, until I clicked the link and read the announcement page... I guess it's a decent idea if you have nothing else better to be making. There is always some uptick in sales when new marketing occurs though not sure if it makes sense financially for Nintendo as their hardware R&D and manufacturing retool costs would have to be covered. With all the other varieties of DS though maybe they've figured out how to minimize those overhead costs and can profit from any new hardware sale regardless of it's market penetration on the marketing hype alone.
looking at the trailer for it , i thought it was late April fool joke

Yeah, that would be missing an opportunity for releasing a 2DS-DS.
Meh, not for me this 2DS.

No 3D, no snap conctruction, small screen, weak battery (same as in the original 3DS), lack of stereo speakers.

3DS XL is gonna be my version of choice when I'll finally decide to buy it.

Here's a quick demonstration to 3DS users on how to convert their old crappy 3DS into a brand new shiny 2DS

Zchinque: You are aware that there are some differences between a DS and a 3DS, other than the 3DS having a 3D screen? No?

lugum: Some more power? Yeah that makes it convincing to save $30-40 on getting a 2ds rather then a 3ds.
As for the games, just like the ds you get like 10-20 AAA titles and the rest is all My Pony etc.
The difference in power frankly left me amazed when I first got it. Normal DS to 3DS was like going from the Playstation 1 to the 360 in one giant leap. Sure, there'll be shovelware out there but there is on every single one of the most popular systems, and if you explore the library enough you'll find a bunch of hidden gems that weren't advertised much.
PSP to Vita was a much smaller difference in comparison (which speaks more about how good the PSP actually was compared to what people thought of it more than anything).
This is hilarity at its finest. If one goes to Nintendo's youtube, you'll find that they've disabled ratings and comments!
NINTENDO HAS JUST ANNOUNCED THE 1DS!
