It has already passed the $5 million mark.

wolfsite: That article is very out of date, Origin has changed considerably since then. I actually ran a process comparison between Origin and Steam on my computer last year and Origin only scanned within it's installed directory while Steam actually ventured outside of it's directory structure and scanned my Windows directories and a few third party directories like Logitech.

Mrstarker: Yeah, my post was not about the current state of affairs, but more of an enumeration of the various crap that EA has pulled over the years. The bottom line is that I don't trust EA. It continuously tries to get away with murder and only backs off when there's significant backlash.
Actually when that happened they publicly apologized stating that it was never supposed to happen to begin with and quickly got a patch out to fix the issue, I do believe them as if they were planting spyware and malware into there products intentionally and without informing the consumer that would just lead to a huge lawsuit at the least and at worst a huge crackdown from every major government agency which no doubt would lead the them getting shut down or worse (there are several countries where actions like these can lead to severe punishments)

Andanzas: So, is Dead Space 2 the best in the series? Because that's the only one I've got, and I still haven''t played it.

Aver: For me it's not. For me Dead Space 2 should be called Dead Space 1,5. It's just new set of levels, 3 new types of enemies and 3 new weapons. Story was ok, but it didn't tell you anything new. I really loved DS1 and I was disappointed with DS2. Someone who didn't play DS1 might like it more, but I would play DS1 first anyway because it has better story.
I'm currently on chapter seven in Dead Space 3. I've finished DS1 and DS2 in the past.

I would say DS1>DS3>DS2 so far. Nothing seriously wrong with DS3, but at this point it's nothing new, plus it's way too easy (at least on Normal). My safe is already full of medpacks and extra ammo. Also, the much advertised icy outdoors have only been present in the intro thus far. The customization however, once you get used to how it works, is the best in the series in this game. Quite fun and gives you lots of options what to carry (me: I use a shotgun/force gun with electric shells and a plasmacutter/SMG with a scope for picking enemies from afar).

DS2 locations didn't do much for me for some reason. I also think the story started to get a little weird here. Also, cheating would've been so easy in this game - the locker was filled with powerful "DLC weapons"and suits right from the start, and that took a huge portion of immersion away for me. Even if I didn't use any of those weapons.

DS1 is a good survival horror action game with a truly terrifying setting, and at this point they hadn't had yet overexplained what exactly went down on Ishimura and all the other places where the necromorph epidemic got started. For me, everything just clicked and there aren't any of the annoyances found in the sequels.
Can anybody please tell me which of the Steam games have another DRM on top, and which are Steamworks only?
Thanks for the answers, guys. Much appreciated.

I'm not sure how up to date it is, but this looks like a good site for such queries: http://www.drmdatabase.net/database

Thanks, it seems that Burnout: Paradise and Mirror's Edge do have additional DRM, while Dead Sapce doesn't.
Can anybody confirm that?

I know Mirror's Edge doesn't have additional DRM on Steam, however it does on Origin. Burnout Paradise also doesn't have additional DRM on Steam, but I'm not sure about the Origin version.

Interesting. Are you sure? The link in Pangaea666's said Mirror's Edge had an SecuROM activation limit of 5 activations, while Burnout requires an online account with EA to make use of the online features.

I'm not 100% sure about the Steam version of Burnout Paradise, however I've seen a few people say it doesn't have additional DRM. I am 100% sure about Mirror's Edge though, it's different from the Origin version. They don't even provide you with a CD key in your Steam library for Mirror's Edge.

Okay, good to know, since that's the game I'm most interested in. Thanks!

How it is -SUPPOSED- to work, and I have no idea if EA has stuck to it, is that the physical disk / off the shelf versions will have Fuck-u- rom (or something like it) to do checks for the disk, but will not include Origin.

The Digital download versions do not have Fuck-u-rom, bur require Origin.

I'm guessing that the vetsions on Steam are just copies of the disk based models, so they come with an inert load of Fuck-u-rom that is patcher to not do the disk check.
They've replaced the Sims 3 Starter Pack key with 3 new separate keys for base game and both expansions.
Still have some misgivings about Origin but I'm willing to give it a shot. I have some questions for people who use it though.

Is it possible to run Origin in a sandbox for security or will it have a shit-fit if it can't scan my system? If the client can be run in sandbox, will installing games outside the sandbox cause conflict? I don't have any pirated games, but don't like the idea of it taking a look through my system and reporting back anything - even if it's just something like my hardware specs.

Also wondering about activating EA games I already own retail copies of, like Crysis. Last I heard you have to get in touch with their customer support and hope for the best. Is there a better way than that now?
