If anyone is interested in how the "Tides" alignment system is going to work in the game, here's recent interviews Saunders and McComb did:

orcishgamer: I'm thinking of KSing this to a rather insane level, even for me, someone for the love of Odin talk me out of it.

shane-o: Do itttttttttttt!
I already did. I think my highest pledge was 25$ for the Homestuck KS (I would have loved one of the plushies, but they were >200$), but for this one I went for the 95+18$ tier.

Point Man: Well, i knew he probably wasn't serious haha. But anyways, Watch This.
Much appreciated.

de_Monteynard: Is there any chance you can provide a link to that statement? Patrick Rothfuss is a phenomenal writer and even though he probably won't work on Torment, it is still great he gets some recognition from the wider community.

+1 for the link. That's an awesome group of people.

I don't think I'll ever go that high. I thought of pledging $35 before the KS started, based on the levels they suggested, but they cheated me and put an early bird tier, so I'm currently at $28. Let's see how things develop. There's a chance I'll throw in more if they do some stretch goals I suggested (novels and resource books) and stick them in a tempting enough position.
I also already backed this -- largely because I already gave money to inXile for Wasteland 2, so to some degree I am pretty trusting of them at this point (even though I obviously don't have a finished product in my hand (digital) hand yet). I gave the standard amount I have given to the game Kickstarters I have backed (this, Wasteland 2, and Project Eternity), which is the ~$30-$40 (so in this case $35) tier because I am not a huge collector person, but I also like having things like soundtracks and art books, AND I feel that I am at least paying almost the full price of a game these days, which makes sense in my mind in terms of how I spend my gaming money (since I have the disposable income to spend on full price --or near full price -- games).

The "alignment system" stuff sounds really interesting. I like the idea of colors: because while it sort of has been hokey in the Bioware games (KOTOR and Mass Effect) I actually like the idea your actions being reflected in something visual -- like color -- and so this seems like a really interesting was to do it.

No problem. I'm quite surprised to see a professional writer who's so into games, it's very refreshing. I'm actually reading Pat's first book "The Name of the Wind" for the first time. I am still near the beginning but the beginning alone hooked me so fast. I also love how Colin had so much doubt throughout the video that the Kickstarter was going to succeed hahaha.
From Brian Fargo's twitter: "More details later but we have a super fan who is going to match 10 cents for every dollar pledged between 2 mil and 3 mil. WOW!"

Wow, that's potentially $100k. Looks like a lot of people really want this game. There are already seven $10k backers (one of them Notch), and now this.

I rarely buy any games these days, and when I do it's usually at <<$10, so pledging even $20 on KS game feels a lot to me.
I really wish I could see Chris Taylor's tears right now.
So, what do all the "KICKSTARTER IS DEAD" people do if it hits 10mil?

I hate to say it - and this is me being cynical, FYI - but they'll probably just troll and say "they won the numbers game."

jackalKnight: So, what do all the "KICKSTARTER IS DEAD" people do if it hits 10mil?
It won't. But I sure hope it leaves in the dust every gaming kickstarter I didn't pledge for.

However, I still hate them (ks, not inXile) for taking a dump on Product Design. Jason Scott thinks the management's overreaction to nondelivery will kill ks, and I agree - simply because it looks like nothing else will. Certainly not specific failed pledge drives and the whining of their frustrated organizers.

not really the place to discuss it.
but without details all I can say is non delivery isn't is ks problem.people aware when they donate ANYTHING could happen with money post successful funding. its not under their control and really unfair for backers to blame them for a project not coming to fruition. backers know the risks they are taking.
what u mean product design?
failed drives = devs not being organised and providing enough detail or vision to bring people in to pledge.IMHO of course.

This.

And this.
http://ascii.textfiles.com/archives/3857

Following a number of rather high-profile (but small compared to recent gaming successes) nondeliveries, kickstarter implemented a bunch of restrictions for projects in the Hardware and Product Design categories, some of them sensible (prototype or GTFO), others not so (one per person, that is, if you want 2 items, make a fake account). Plus everyone else got screwed with "10 items max" rule. There will be more nondeliveries, and more stupid restrictions. Consider that the top successes are in fact hardware/product design, they happened before the "not a store" nonsense landed, and neither of them was a disguised preorder.
