As someone who adores SS2 and never played SS1 I have high hopes for this one.
Devs certainly took their time, so hopefully they used it properly, to make a game worthy of its name.

Lone_Scout: Not preordering. I'll wait for R&R (Release and Reviews)... and maybe a later discount.

The fact that they used Unity for making the game makes me a bit skeptical about its performance/optimization...

greyhat: It is using Unreal 4.
The performance is good. Check out the demo and see for your self :)
Thanks!
Last time I checked the demo it was made with Unity (and I had an older computer which made me notice its lack of optimization)
I'm glad they switched to Unreal :)

You should absolutely play the original SS1 (or Enhanced Edition, which makes controls more modern). It's still awesome.
Shiny, this belongs on a wishlist :)

I don't "do" pre-orders. But, Wish-listed? Definitely.

You are welcome. :) They switched over to Unreal some time ago. They took a hiatus and reevaluated the direction the game was taking and scoped it back and at the same time made the engine switch.

Hope you enjoy the demo.

bluethief: This game has different prices on my region on all 3 stores:

GOG: 44,89 €
Steam: 37,99 €
EGS: 35,99 €

Usually, games here have the same price across all stores.
avatar
Zoidberg: I don't have a price on EGS but the same difference for GOG/Steam.

I'll gladly steer away from this one.
The prices are identical on my end.

51,49 CAD at both Steam and GOG.

I think there are some price discrepancy hic ups depending on regional pricing and calculated exchange. IE it is a error on GOG and Steams end. I have seen reports of this from a few people. But for others the price is the same. It is supposed to be the same across all store fronts.

Is this an actual remaster or a reboot ?.
Never played the original (yeah my loss?)
Despite the fact someone mentioned above somewhere you get the SS2 with it as pre order, what happens on release?.
Its currently sitting at $64.99 AUD which is about$15 or so bucks below what's charged for a AAA game over here. For me , the price is too high.Sorry.

Same! plus they switched from unity to the a$$ unreal engine which for no reason ALWAYS crashes for me!

It is a reboot where they rebuilt the game in a new engine. I did hear that they did update some mechanics to make it easier for newer players to pick up.
I tried the demo which was a bit confusing because I had tried the old demo some years ago and it kinda has been replaced I guess. Must have been because what I now tried seemed great. Graphics are like old style but still new. I think it looks awesome. Also ET monsters were actually pretty scary this time.
Nice.
Only graphic fault I noticed that when you have the lead pipe and you look down at your feet it goes trough your torso. =D

They ditched Unity way back for Unreal 4.
IT´s even written in the trailer at the end.

It's kind of both: they are remaking the old game with a fresh coat of paint and some updated things like the interface and, controls in order to turn a lengendary, ahead-of-its-time game into a modern one-of-the-many one.

They are going for a pixelated look in the materials while keepeing the levels' structure mostly faithful, while they are turning the iconic cyberspace into a tacky disco club from the 80s.

No idea regarding shooting/economy (if any at all)/upgrades/plot/game modes, etc.

Judging by the comments so far this game is going to please many modern gamers and people who liked that enhanced edition with standard controls.

Sorry, but this pre-order stinks of "We ran out of money again!" from the developers.
