Hmmm... looking it up. Dark Forces was MS-DOS so DosBox is going to be used, but 97 with DF2, it's squarely in the Windows 95 era, which means it will have the worst compatibility... Aside from running the launcher with different compatibility options (Win 95/98/2000, XP SP3, Vista) i'm not sure.
Although to note, a LOT of windows software also had no sense of permissions or protections so not sure if it requires admin/root access to run.
