Millian: There are plenty of intelligent essays on the merits of piracy. It may be illegal, but it also has a lot of positive side effects. This isn't the thread to discuss them, but here is just one of many: http://www.ipdigit.eu/2013/12/the-hidden-treasure-of-piracy/
Yea Blackbeard, Black Bart and Morgan all justified their actions saying they were democratic etc. Fact remains they are some of the lowest forms of scum on the planet. If you support piracy then you should support someone coming into your house and taking what they want and not have an issue with it.

Copying is not the same as material theft. Good try though. Try reading some intelligent papers on the topic and then come back. I think I'll take Harvard research papers and similar sources over angry forum ranters any day.

Ryuubei: Never be able to stop this. Hell as soon as the game launches on the 19th you can garuntee it's gonna be uploaded as a torrent. It's just the way DRM free games go. Deal with it, get over it, and move on. You don't see the dev's beating their chest and crying "woe is me".

They accept it's gonna happen and move on. Hell IIRC Witcher 2 was one of the most pirated games ever, but they still sold enough copies of the game to justify the 3rd, and make a shed load of money. Despite everyone knowing the game would be available as a torrent Witcher 3 has still sold over 1million copies.

That should tell you everything you need to know

Goodmongo: I propose we do to pirates what we did during the 15th through 17th centuries. Kill them. pretty soon people will get the message and stop. Drastic? Maybe but it would work.
Oh, yeah? Bring it on mate, I'm a good pirate myself.

Hate to bust your bubble but it most surely is. Unless you and your "Harvard" researchers never heard of intellectual property.

How about we then just force you to work for free. Let's see the pseudo-intellectuals at Harvard explain those benefits. Stealing is stealing and if your moral compace is broken you'll find some excuse or rational to justify it. But int he end it is wrong.

The game costs 32$ on GOG.

geminidomino: Say what now? What country is that?

Are they going to put out a legit demo, so I can see if my borderline PC will be able to run it?
I bought the game for $36, in Argentina.

Why don't YOU pay me a visit? I'm sure you can afford it. It seems like you really don't know why so many people illegaly download stuff from the internet. It's about money, pal, it's pretty common to walk in any south american street and see a whole lot of people selling pirate dvds. Why? Because all those things are really overpriced here. $60 is a lot of money, it's like 1/5 of a normal salary here. There are very few companies selling their product at a more accessible price in this region, and only those companies deserve our money.

Why are you feeding him? Even if he's not a troll, person who's fiercely insist on that copying equals stealing is... how would I put it politely... a bit strange.

Basically because it drives me mad when people suggest such a punishment to minor "crimes" like piracy :p It's kinda stupid.
I personally know people that download the games, they later buys, since demos are rare and 9/10 demos show one of the best parts in the game, sometimes the only good part and i find them unreliable, so i tend to go by video reviews or 'lets play' type of videos.

It allows me to see if it is the type of game i will enjoy, it would be cool if it was possible to have an account of the developer's site or something, where it allows you to download a review copy that shows a small portion of the game, that alone would lower piracy to some degree, but there will always be those type of people that are just too cheap and want everything for free.

Its like Teen Wolf for example, the series is awesome, i have series 1%2 on DVD, but the EU people have decided not to pick it up, which means, no tv showing, no DVDs.....for series 3 and 4, i will never get to see, its problems like this that makes piracy so rampant.

I even have netflix, but since i am in the EU, (london) i don't have access to what the US netflix does, all Star Trek Series, Teen Wolf....EVERYTHING, i get some crap shows that got cancelled, another reason why piracy is so bad.

I don't agree with piracy, but i can understand why some do it.
It's simple. People put their time effort and energy into making something. No one has the right to steal it. Too bad you can't afford it. Save up for it. Seems you can afford the $1000+ computer to run the thing so go cry me a river.

Pirates are just thieves and like others try to justify their theft. I personally know people that have lost income due to pirates in music, literature and in coding.

The artists and hard wrokers don't take money or food from your mouth so what gives you the right to do this to them?
Yes, stealing is wrong. But it's unrealistic to pursure and combat internet piracy. It's nearly impossible. Just take a look on how many years it took to take down The Pirate Bay. Even more so, CDPR seem to agree with me, as they commented themselves on a torrent site, explaining that the game will recieve a PC patch shortly after release, which they will be able to download regardless if they got the game legaly or not.

That's because CDPR realizes you can catch more flies with honey. Showing support and care about their customers reduces piracy far more than legal actions do.

I for one, occasionally pirate a game, I fully admit to that. Not because I'm a cheap bastard, but just sometimes, I'm not sure if I'd like a game or not. I actually downloaded Guacamelee from a pirate site before puchasing it from GOG. I'll also admit, that if I didn't have enough money to pay for a game, I'd pirate it. The logical way of thinking is: it doesn't really matter if a game is being pirated or not. Most people wouldn't pay for your game even if they couldn't pirate it. Better to have it spread further with free publicity and hope that some of those people actually love the game enough to go and pay for it.

How can someone loose income they never had? The only way is someone buying the product and then returning it.

It's called potential. Stop trying to justify theft.

So let me understand this. If I invite some buddies over and give them a beer. I'm sharing my beer with them that I bought is theft now? How can the supermarket loose income when I already bought from them? Oh wait its call potential right?

I'm not justifying theft. I don't believe in it. But sharing isn't theft.

For me I'll always support good products. I'll buy it no problem.

But if the new world order is that mentality sharing = piracy.. then guys we're all pirates.
