You are quite new to the internet, aren't you? You cannot stop people putting anything up on torrent sites, think of it as a free demo for those who are unsure about purchasing a product.

Ok, obviously you do not understand how this works. Those torrents are nothing more then the pre-load available on GOG.com or Steam. They will not be able to run without the day 1 patch. There is nothing wrong with putting those up on torrent sites. In fact it helps relive the server strain on GOG.com!

NOW, if they put the day one patch, allowing you to play without paying, then THAT is piracy.

I don't get it. Why are you so upset when you've purchased the game and can start enjoying it on 19th? Sharing is normal. People who create these torrents don't take anything from you. No offence, but aren't you SOPA/PIPA-style acts supporter?

Just one question. Do you think cyber-piracy equals theft?

I don't see anything wrong with torrents, as long as you end up supporting those devs which deserve your support. The problem today is that there's SO MUCH shovelware, at least in PC gaming, that most of the times what looks like a promising game ends up being a waste of money, and in my case, and surely many others, I have to work for my money.
I think piracy will always be there, one way or another, the best thing that can be done is be responsible about it and pay for those games that deserve it. In some way this will help towards making PC gaming more competitive and resulting in better games or at least making the devs spend some money in testing their games before releasing.

Edit: Btw, before anyone gets mad, I did support CDProjekt on each of their Witcher games.

I am not ashamed of admitting I torrent quite a few games on a regular basis. If a game lives up to the expectation and marketing I'm more than happy to buy it right on the spot. There is a sharp decrease in the number of publishers and developers I can fully trust these days, CDPR is one of them, so there is no need of any piracy here, the game will be amazing.

And then there are those publishers whose games I wouldn't even waste the bandwidth on.

Apart from the fact that thieves don't pay for a developer's hard work. These are not available, legally, until payed for.
Out of curiosity OP, what do you propose GOG should do? Or better, the community since you posted this in the forum rather than sending a support ticket directly to GOG.
Never be able to stop this. Hell as soon as the game launches on the 19th you can garuntee it's gonna be uploaded as a torrent. It's just the way DRM free games go. Deal with it, get over it, and move on. You don't see the dev's beating their chest and crying "woe is me".

They accept it's gonna happen and move on. Hell IIRC Witcher 2 was one of the most pirated games ever, but they still sold enough copies of the game to justify the 3rd, and make a shed load of money. Despite everyone knowing the game would be available as a torrent Witcher 3 has still sold over 1million copies.

That should tell you everything you need to know
IMHO, if people can afford to pay for it, they are going to get it proper. The people you need to force to pay, either cannot or are not that interested anyway.

I propose we do to pirates what we did during the 15th through 17th centuries. Kill them. pretty soon people will get the message and stop. Drastic? Maybe but it would work.

I'm pretty sure that you did steal something like a candy when you was young, got a ticket for speeding, had a fight or something. Let's start from you.

P.S. I'm a software developer and a musician and i don't care about piracy at all, there will be people who will pay, some as soon as that stuff got released, some after they played it for free. And some people won't pay no matter what. It's a life.
CD-PR have already posted to some of the torrent sites.
"On May the 19th CDPR will release a 1.01 patch that will contain numerous fixes and an exe file. This file will be available from the Galaxy Client (need not login/sign up, just have the client up and running with the preload files imported). Alternatively, you can download the patch from "play.thewitcher3.com" and just run it.

This will be available to everybody, not just people who bought the game.

Having said that, I would really like to encourage you buying the game. Firstly, it goes toward my salary (I work at the company), which you may probably not care about.

Secondly, if you own the game, you will receive 16 free DLCs which contain tons of cool stuff, including new quest lines, item sets, game modes etc.

The game costs 32$ on GOG. And for that 32$ you will get so much gaming content it will boggle your mind. Seriously. I am involved in the development process and me, as well as hundreds of people who have literally worked their asses off for the last couple of months (some serious overtime came into making Witcher 3). And I am telling you: this ain’t an 8-hour corridor stunt for 60 bucks. This is a game as huge as Skyrim itself, perhaps even bigger.

I really do hope you enjoy the game, no matter if you buy it or not. I will however really, personally appreciate if you purchase it."
Seems very fair and reasonable. I couldn't imagine wanting to steal this... how messed up would that be? Can afford to build a machine powerful enough to run W3, but too much of a prick to buy the game?
The game costs 32$ on GOG.
Say what now? What country is that?

Are they going to put out a legit demo, so I can see if my borderline PC will be able to run it?
There are plenty of intelligent essays on the merits of piracy. It may be illegal, but it also has a lot of positive side effects. This isn't the thread to discuss them, but here is just one of many: http://www.ipdigit.eu/2013/12/the-hidden-treasure-of-piracy/
