I'm about 35 hours and level 9.... I'm happy with this progression, can use the items for long time. This game is for many days :)
This is because the game's system has changed for the worse. No monster gives XP. You gain xp only upon quest completion. This was a sh*t change, really.

Combat is VERY easy, though. You don't even need signs, if you roll and attack all the time you can ninja kill through everyone and anything.

You don't level up by grinding (thank god). None of that JRPG crap here! All you need to do is side missions and you'll soon get there. Travel around the entire maps villages and you'll get enough small time contracts that'll boost you a few levels. High enough to do witcher contracts.

I've leveled up from killing monsters.

EDIT: Although I now realize that's probably from quest monster kills, as killing monsters on the world map when traveling or clearing points of interest doesn't look like it's doing anything for me. Way to remove an incentive.

this type of leveling is better than grind. but level restrictions on items are stupid. like level 27 blueprins found by lvl 5 character - you urge to use this items, but it will take you eternity to reach their lvl...
oh and with this rate you definetly find something better while you are leveling.

personally i had troubles finding good swords when i entered no mans land. had snake-witchers swords lvl2 - so i was forced to use them till lvl 7 when i finally was able to put on griffin swords... annoying and i felt significant lack of damage - i could stand against vasilisk 10+ minutes but brought him to 90% hp.

Monsters related to a certain quest, perchance?

Hickory: Leveling up in this game IS too slow, and they've made the same mistake that the developers of BG2 made: you're forced to go 'adventuring' while trying to rescue a loved one. That is just utterly stupid.

I have been to Kaer Morhen, my character is level 22, and I've just completed a quest that gives me a suit of armour that requires level 27! But not only that, I'm seeing items for sale requiring level 39! I'm never going to reach that level at this rate. I absolutely fail to see how retrieving Billy-Bob's lost bauble gains you 'adventuring' experience, and yet ridding a town of a monster nest does not (example). It's silly, it's stupid, it's ill-advised, it's wrong.
You lost everyone at the point you said the developers made the same mistake in BG 2. That game is still the benchmark for ANY RPG to try and attain in it's complexity, replay value and Fun.

If anyone thinks grinding on mobs to level your character in an RPG is fun please go back to playing the MMO you came from. This game is supposed to take a long time to finish if you want to see as much as you can and interact with all the different things available in game. If you bought this game to plow through the story in 40 hours and say "i beat it" than you bought the wrong game.

I would guess he is saying he made a level by completeing a monster contract. Which is actually a quest and you will get very good exp for completing. Taking out monster nests is also very good exp when you wander upon them.

I noticed earlier you posted that you thought combat was way to easy. I invite you to try one of the contract monsters that require you to do a whole lot more than just roll away in combat. Also if you think the world monsters are to easy than you should probably up the difficulty level of the game. Try the 3 or 4th level of difficulty and see how you like it when you cannot regen from meditating. It adds a whole new layer of preperation time for everything.

Speak for yourself only, ignorant dolt.

Again with your ignorance. I have never in my life played an MMO.

I suggest you either hold your tongue or speak only of what you know something about.

Enlighten me. What is doubtful?
Yoiu knew the kind of game you were getting into. Bitching about it not being what you wanted isn't going to change the fact that it is what it is.

I'll ask you again: enlighten me. What is doubtful. Stop trying to wriggle out of your outbursts.
Leveling too slow? I wouldn't agree. Try focusing on the main story then. It will give you a nice level boost.

Nope. You act like a spoiled MMO child because you aren't getting what you want. I DOUBT you have never played an MMO or it's like because a TRUE RPG doesn't have grinding on mobs to level. You have to actually you know RPG. Oh and go ahead and drop the smug act it's really tiring.
