Catherine Ann Archer closely followed by our favourite adventurer Lara Croft. The two NOLF games are amazing, Cate Archer is much more than a female James Bond. Honorable mention to [Oscar mech voice on]Kate Walker[Oscar mech voice off].
If StarCraft 2 didn't exist I would have chosen Sarah Kerrigan.
Already entered with Aina from my game, but...

Carrie Fernandez from Castlevania 64

Definitely Rosangela Blackwell. Intelligent, caring, natural, sometimes a bit sarcastic sometimes witty...

KneeTheCap: The anonymous "pop culture critic" critiqued video games and their portrayal of women, especially the lack of them being the lead character. But surely there are female characters in games that are portrayed well, and some of them are leading their games, right?

What is your favorite female character in video games, and why? Picture about the said character would be appreciated also.

And as this is a giveaway, I shall give one copy of a game that features probably the most well-known female character in gaming. And you need steam for it aswell. The game was made in 2013 and it's my pick for GOTY. Feel free to guess what it might be.

So, post away. I'll let this giveaway run a day or two. Three, maybe.

Good luck.

Willow - A Better Companion Experience

Why?

Because the creator of this FNV mod, made Willow very realistic, charming and useful. When she is bored, she will sing. She is eager to please you but also asks for favors. She only agrees to do something if she is okay with it. She kicks ass in combat. making FNV a more pleasant experience considering combat in FNV can be a bitch.

For me one of the most memerable female characters in gaming is Aida from Unreal 2. She is smart, forward thinking, brave and tries to do what is the best. She is also haunted by her demons which go with her to the end of the game.
http://unreal.wikia.com/wiki/Aida

I also like Dianna from the Hitman series. Again she is smart and forward thinking. Without her 47 would have been toast, but we never really get the chance to met her, she is only ever the voice in the background.

Banjo Dragon, my own female Argonian who is Grand Champion of the Arena, a Magician of the Mage's Guild, the Hero of Kvatch, Savior of Bruma, and known all over Cyrodil as someone who can "mix up a batch of potions."

In, please. Fun thread.
My pick is Tali'Zorah vas Normandy.
Only Lara Croft comes to mind for the game ;d.
Count me in please.

They changed her portrait from the original BG, never noticed that and I played both games for a very long time. I knew the avatar was from BG2, but didn't think it was Jaheira.
Thanks for the giveaway. I'm in (for Tomb Raider I guess).

If we're talking leading characters I like both old and middle Lara Croft (haven't got a chance to know the new one, I hope you're gonna help me with that ;)) and also Jill Valentine from first Resident Evil.
Here are my favorite pics of them:
1. Lara
2. Jill

But, my favorite female character from video games is Almalexia from Elder Scrolls III: Tribunal.
I finished every single Temple quest just to please her, I guess no one blames me:
1. Almalexia1
2. Almalexia2
;)

I'm gonna mirror a lot of other answers here, though probably be the first to post a picture, and say April Ryan from The Longest Journey.

Not in though. I couldn't stand that game.

Not for their personality, but pure in game power Blood Bowl Witch elves (dark elves) and Wardancers (wood elves). Wardancers are probably the best players in the whole game, pretty in action too :)

However ingame person, like real character? Some good ones were already mentioned, so lets say Triss Merigold from Witcher. Strong and had actually good dialogue as well.
Thank you for the giveaway!
Please, count me in for akhliber, if possible.

My favorite female character is probably Lara Croft from Tomb Raider serie, but I surely can't forget my first love: Elaine Marley from The Secret of Monkey Island.
It's odd, but when I hear 'Female Characters' my first thought it Rebecca Chambers. She's cute, she's smart, she can kick ass when she needs to.

After that I start thinking of Darkstalkers characters, mainly and [url=http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20121207055742/darkstalkers/images/2/2a/Darkstalkers_Resurrection_Hsien-Ko.png]Hsien-Ko
