You sell item A
I want item A

You sell it for 100$
Lets say I buy it from you for 100$ - I maybe made an excellent deal, but it doesn't feel like one.
If I haggle you down to 50$ it will feel awesome, like I made a bargain.

If the item A is worth 25$ it doesn't even bother me. You were selling it for 100$ thats my percieved value, I paid only half, so I feel like a winner.
Actually I'm the loser, but that's not what I percieve.

It happens with shitty Steam and German pricing models all the time.
They offer ludicrous 50% deals that are still more expensive than the DRM-FREE GOG version or some RETAIL copies from the local supermarket. The bad thing is, they sell that crap. They get away with that and sit on their tidy profits.

Anyway, I know how you feel.

I hate that shit! I hate humans behaving like this. I hate those cheap bastards who are too dumb to know the real value of their purchase! I hate how publishers, sellers, middlemen all abuse this to get rich, I hate humanity for that and I hate flocking Steam. But that's how it is and you can't change the stupidity of mankind unless you seriously consider genocide and starting again with bees and stromatolites.

It's hard to cool down when you look at the bigger picture. I'm a bigger picture kind of person.

You are using a bad example BTW. It is well known that Steam asks too much from their German customers so of course, a 50% deal in Germany is not a bargain. I'm talking about haggling over something when the price is a bargain, already. Such a bargain that it is almost not worth it for the seller, to sell it because he makes peanuts from the deal. See, this is the kind of behavior that destroys small businesses and makes it so only stores like Walmart can survive. By not spending a single cent until you get your 99% off bargain, you are making it so another person doesn't make enough money to stay in business or to survive or whatever. Why do you think most things are made in China nowadays? Why do you think, jobs are disappearing? Excessive greed is bad.

Value is a market decided term and subjective to people's interest. I don't doubt your story, my question is more if your conceived value has a decidedly different market value that people are comparing against.

I know a lot of people make that mistake. They see an item as gold while in reality, it is far from gold. That is why haggling is necessary. I do not make such mistakes.

It's not well known enough, otherwise bullshitty Steam would pull that off... EVERY MOTHERFLOCKING DAY!!!

I don't want to derail this discussion, the moment the seller feels he is ripped off he has to start laughing at the potential buyer and send him away. Simple as that, don't take this personal.

Don't be fair with the customer unless you feel he deserves it.
Why do you expect him to care about you? That's not his buisness. Not if he wants to achieve something today and bring something supercheap back home.

This has nothing to do with the bigger picture. All it has to do with is your particular experience trying to sell this (whatever it is) stuff and the particular people who want to pay less than you want them to pay.

I refuse to agree that the world is going to hell, or that Americans suck, or that people in this thread are indicative of what's wrong with the world, or any other crazy crap - just because you are having a bad day.

There is a line. Once someone crosses it, that person is a douche bag. Yes, this is business but A, such behavior wastes my time, B, I find their behavior unpleasant, C, the world would be a better place without such people. Business shouldn't be like this.

Doesn't matter. It's perception. It's psychology. Unless you give us some real, actual details, this thread is just a place for you to vent and rant. If you're really bothered by the haggling, increase the price and expect the haggling so that you get the same profit margin you wanted. If it takes a while then so be it. Otherwise all we have to go on is your current anger.

Over the last several years times have gotten tougher and peoples' disposable income has shrunk more and more. Due to that and the fact that retailers/vendors have begun offering bigger and better deals in an attempt to capture as much of that disposable income as they can (since fewer and fewer people are in a position where they have significant disposable income), it's basically come to a point where many people are unwilling to pull the trigger unless they find what they feel is a 'steal'. It's a sign of the times and the economic shift of the last several years, IMO.

This has everything to do with the bigger picture. You just choose to bury your head in the sand. And please, no more butt hurt replies from you? I didn't start this thread for that.

Obviously the demand for what you are trying to sell is less than the supply. That's the big picture. It always has been, and it always will be. If your going to get mad at something, I recommend the internet. Before eBay, stuff was just worth more money.

OP - it sounds like you need a crash course in economics and civility after reading your posts. The simple answer is that given the current market or the market you are trying to reach, the price of your goods are too expensive. Your response to asking what you are trying to sell is "It doesn't matter, what I'm trying to sell and for how much unless you think I'm a liar" which is quite a defensive position to a simple question, especially when you are wanting support for your "people are cheap" position.
