A Bitmap Blast From the Past!

The Chaos Engine, a legendary top-down shooter straight from 1993 with tweaks and updates such as16-directional movement, is available for only $9.99 on GOG.com.

The infernal machine known as the Chaos Engine reaches through space and time and corrupts our world twisting humans into bloodthirsty, armored beasts. It is up to a small task force of top mercenaries to stop the menace and bring the balance back to the planet. There's only one way to achieve that goal, of course--shoot everything that stands in their path. The heroes of this story are almost as scary as the monsters they fight, but they know quite well that some places are too dangerous to go alone. Cooperation is the key to success--double the firepower, double the chances of survival--and success is crucial to humankind's continues existence.

The Chaos Engine, the legendary top-down shooter originally released by Bitmap Brothers in the magical Amiga era, is back and it's better then ever. This faithful remake brings around everything that made the original great--sleek graphics, badass characters, puzzles, and extreme gun combat. Once again (or maybe for the first time), you can play through all 16 classic levels in four exciting worlds, preferably in exciting multiplayer mode. For an exciting nostalgic trip with tons worth of bullets being shot on the way, you can't go wrong with a classic like The Chaos Engine!

Set out to save the world and kick some monster butt in one of the most memorable Amiga-era games, The Chaos Engine, for only $9.99 on GOG.com.

CORRECTION: We're sorry for the misleading original post, but the game does not support on-line multiplayer.
What a day. Fantastic releases.
Here's hoping Z and Cadaver are also on the cards... Bah, any Bitmap Brothers game, really.

I second this, even though i've only ever played Speedball, the other Bitmap Brothers games highly interest me.
16-directional movement
How does this work?

Ooh, ooh! Gods!

And maybe even Speedball 1 & 2!
Wooooo!
Good game and good release, but more of a $5.99 release for me so I'll just wait for a sale (or a bundle).

htown1980: That doesn't count as a cool release for me. No interest at all. In fact, I hope I can give it away when I buy Guac, I don't like having games I don't want on my shelf (even invisible ones).
That'd be a shame, because it's a damn good game. I've just played it through on my Vita and I can highly recommend it (although I'm not sure how well the superbly implemented touchscreen controls translate to the PC).

Well, it's not running in an emulator, so it's not completely out of the box.

WinUAE pisses me with it's clunkiness so this gets my tick of approval
I've finished the "original" DOS game about half a year ago with my friend and can't really see any difference between it and this new "remake"...

can somebody explain why is it worth buying please?
I'll wait for a sale, $10 is way too much imo. Ever since Good Old Games became GOG.com and began to take on newer games/indies, the old games started to become more expensive.

Lovag: the old games started to become more expensive.
Small FYI while I go look for the prices, this isn't an old game. This is a day 1 release, even if it is a remake of the old game.

Edit: Looked at 2013 classic (10+ years old) only, results are:
41 classic releases up to today.
31 of those priced 5.99
9 of those priced 9.99
1 of those (Avernum) priced at 11.99

So 75% of the titles are priced at $6 and ~25% are priced at $10. Can't see them getting more expensive.

I can do the previous years as well if you like, though it will take some time.

It's not a remake.... It's a straight port from the Amiga AGA version to Windows/Mac/Linux, with some tweaks and graphical options, where is the word "remake"even mentioned once?

As far as I'm concerned this is a good release, "remakes" in this day and age leave nothing but a bitter taste in my word, it almost always ruins the original, for example the X-COM reboot.

Crosmando: Hey, the new Daedalic game comes out today too doesn't it? We gonna get it?
Which game?
