Honestly, I have no gamer boner from this. I don't even have the first L4D, and I think that's a good thing. I really don't have the money to waste on games that cost 49.99. Maybe a Weekend Deal...
Yeah, I picked up the original L4D as part of a weekend deal, myself, so I think I ended up only paying maybe $30 or even $20 for it. On that note, I really can't complain about the price point. But even so, I still think that it's almost like they're pulling the plug on the original game way too early. Instead of trying to finish putting the polish on this one, they're just rushing off to make a sequel. Almost smacks of the "one game a year" assembly line concept some franchises (like Tomb Raider) degenerated to.
And yes, it's unfair to say that about L4D seeing as how this would only be the -second- game in the series whereas Tomb Raider has had many, many more installments and this pattern didn't emerge until like the third or fourth games, but even so, that's just the feeling I get from this. This isn't to say that I'm not inclined to play the thing, anyway, but it likely won't be an insta-buy much the same way as the original wasn't an insta-buy, either.

lowyhong: ...unless they make a true zombie game which involves having to scrounge for ammo, barricade doors, explore a large city to find more randomly generated supplies etc.

I'd pay a monthly fee for that.
The only notable features are melee weapons and AI Director 2, as of yet.
Depending on the price point, I might be willing to fork out for it, as even if it is an incremental upgrade, I never bought the first.
It's just a shame that it's very unlikely that GOG will ever get anything Valve.
I read some of the statements of valve about this and it made me feel I bought an unfinished game. :(

we did, I did because I expected this to be better eventually, and instead we're getting nothing, but the option to buy a new game that is similar.
Yeah I also expected for it to get better with updates and such like TF2. Apparently there are 2k+ people upset about it in this new steam group lol http://steamcommunity.com/groups/L4D2boycott

Ooooh, that's a nice picture they have there.
I think I'll join them.
Btw the community (at least those on the Steam forums) is angry, except for some Valve fanboys:

I wasn't planning to be active about my distaste for L4D2, but I guess I'll join as well.

Yeah it's pretty amazing how some people fail to see where Valve is heading towards. I can understand why people are excited about L4D2, even those who currently own L4D, like some of the good folk here, but there are those who defend Valve to death with the most ridiculous defensive statements like "burn those who say L4D isn't complete!" or Derek Smart's (not) awesome "it's all part of modern business practice" to justify churning out a sequel so quickly.
I too agree L4D is fun, but content wise, it's sorely lacking. You can play a game over 20 times, and clock 50 hours on that, but that's not covering up for lack of content if you're basically using the same tactics and strategy all the time. With Quake or Battlefield, it's different, since your tactics are ever changing, but what change of tactics are there in L4D, when the most effective is always identified to be one spot in every gauntlet?
I'm glad they're fixing these in L4D 2, but the fact remains that people who bought L4D 1 and provided feedback on these issues are like beta testers. Oh look Tom now we know what the players really like, we can go on to making a new patch for L4D 1 but we'll put them in a new package and sell it all over again!
(I am, at this point, assuming Left 4 Dead 2 isn't free, and if Valve has any business sense at all, they would persue their goal of maximizing profits)

It's funny that L4D2 contains what was promised L4D will get later (more campaigns, survivors, weapons,...).
If Valve will add L4D2 as a free content for L4D owners, then I understand why will they release L4D2 - why sell a game (L4D) and then let the new player download hundreds of MB to start playing? Instead release L4D together with the content update (but with another name to avoid confusions). This makes sense.
But if L4D2 will be standalone game, then Valve is Left 4 (epic) Fail. There will be no way to excuse for releasing long time ago promissed content as a new game.

I wonder if EA or MicroSoft paid valve for releasing those new episodes and other stuff as second game. As I see it, those things looks like if they were originally standard DLC...
This really should be a free DLC.
