cogadh: As for the Troika thing, all we really have is Oldski saying "We're working on it." Technically, they are working on every publisher/developer out there, so hearing that about Troika in particular really doesn't tell us much. But, since they almost never mention prospective publisher/developers by name until they actually have a deal in place, this does bode really well for Troika's potential GOG participation.

And that would be worthy of cheers for numerous reasons, partly because their games are great but mostly because it.d be a break from duke bloody nukem and his related shooters

cogadh: New publisher announcements are usually accompanied by at least one game release from that publisher. We already got today's new releases, so I don't think we'll be getting any publisher announcements today.

Gexecuter: But GOG said that today there was going to be an announcement of a new publisher! they couldn't have lied to us right? :/

I wouldn't say "lied", but perhaps the plans changed.
"Lied" is more dramatic though
I figured they meant to say "Duke on Tuesday, publisher on Thursday of next week." Since Thursday's Announcement Day.
Sierra was bought by Activision, right? Any chance they'll start releasing some of the older games? Vivendi clearly wanted to squeeze some more profit out of some of the "Quest" games with those poorly organized collections, so maybe Activision will feel the same way.
I'd love to get a juicy digital pack of some of the old Sierra adventure games. They didn't even try to make a new Quest for Glory collection.

That may possibly be due to the horror that is QfG5 (and the fact they'd have to patch up 3 and 4). I just couldn't get used to 5, the graphics, the interface, the fact they recycled all the old characters... I don't mind a little nod to previous games, but having everyone you've met be in one place for the most stretched of reasons was just wrong for me.

I actually played Dragon Fire before the other four and bought the collection because of the fifth one. It's hard to defend the control system, but I didn't mind the graphics in, what, 1998? I didn't mind the huge number of recycled characters; it fleshed them out further and helped me become familiar with the faces of the series. Besides, at the end of a series, everyone should always make one last appearance. That's what conclusions are all about. If they had introduced too many new characters, fans would have been disappointed with lost potential (but then again, the series might not have stopped if the fifth one had sold better).
I don't know. I admit, the first four quest for glory games are different from the fifth one, but I still enjoy the fifth one in a different way.
Yeah, Dragon Fire was fun. Better than Wages of War. But of course, nothing beats the EGA original. :-)

I just felt that because they included lots of previous characters, it didn't feel like a "real" game in the series, more like a farewell party. Each story is supposed to be a progression forward, and yet I felt like the fifth was confused about what it wanted to do, to be a game on its own merits, or to be some sort of compilation of the past.
I found the graphical style quite strange, I've never been fond of the move to 3d for adventure game titles. I also feel Sierra had generally lost their mojo by that point. I don't think I liked the final game in any of the series, barring perhaps police quest 4, which I haven't played recently enough to remember.
edit: Oh and Zeewolf, I like Wages of War! I usually play as a wizard though, heard a lot of criticism about the thief way, but the only part I dislike was the combat.

I played as a thief, so that may explain something. I liked the thief character in the two first games, as he was a very good all-round character. But it was annoying how they "nerfed" him in the third, and even (I believe) took away spells that my imported character knew. My thief was both an excellent fighter and a good mage (went through WIT and everything) in the two first games.
But QfG 3 was also very short and simple compared to the other games in the series. I believe it just took me two days to finish.
Anyway... on-topic - yes, Sierra is now owned by Activision Blizzard, and so far it doesn't seem as if they're going to do anything with the old franchises. I think in general, Activision Blizzard is probably the most mainstream, profit-centered publisher in the games industry. But at the same time, they might be willing to let others use them. Jolt are making a Zork-game (Infocom is also owned by Activision) and Codemasters are publishing the next Larry-game. So who knows.
Edit: One potential new publisher - Novalogic. How about Maximum Overkill on GoG?

God yes! I'd dearly love to get the Delta Force games again as well as the comanche games and a few of their others. Of course they are available at the novalogic store but there's NO way I'm paying around au$35 for a copy of Delta Force 1 that would probably have DRM since it doesn't specifically state the lack of it.
Its also stated that its NOT vista compatible but at least they have the decency to state that upfront.
Delta Force 1 only has a CD key as DRM, it was way to old for any of the DRM crap we see today.
Anyone else got guesses for the three new publishers as revealed on Twitter? It would be cool to second guess them.
Activision, Atari and Sierra (yes, I know Sierra is technically Activision now). Considering they have dropped some of those Troika hints and those are the three publishers Troika has been involved with, they seem most likely (or least unlikely).

Troika DOES also mean 3 of a kind, thinking that way, we may only get one new publisher but fuck what a good one...

Yeah but that was the original release, surely the downloadable version would have something new to defend it from the billions of pirates just slavering to get their filthy thieving hands on it.
