I blame galaxy, we never had any of these problems before having galaxy! (do note the lower case before rants on how I don't like clients, its a joke alright)
They're trying to do similar shit in Germany as well, all under the pretext of fighting "hate speech".
Disgusting what's becoming of western countries.
Why are UK Conservatives acting like Liberals?

If I'm a conservative voter in the UK, I want more freedom, not less. That's what conservative means.

I can't tell what means what anymore.

Edit, you can replace Blair with Corbyn if you like, or actually get both of them.
Great idea, Blair would deserve it.
Wow, read the Independent article...scary stuff! The establishment gets ever more authoritarian, really seems liberal democracy is on the way out.

Really? So when you conserve veggies in a can, you're actually giving them more freedom?
Maybe we should start a pool for when this thread is going to be closed. :P

This thread should be conserved. Trolls need freedom too!

They already have the "Why the person above you should be banned" thread. Isn't that enough? :P

I do believe in this particular context, you mean preserved veggies, not conserved.

EDIT: Never mind the bit about freedom. :-)

EDIT 2: Link to the first usage example I came across: http://www.english-for-students.com/Difference-between-preserve-and-conserve.html

ShadowWulfe: Just out of curiosity... you mean to say that the UK, out of ALL of the choices among nation governing bodies are the ONLY ones convicted of human rights violations?

Not to disagree, I'm sure that their management has done wrong at some point, but you are comparing them to North Korea, a nation with a governing body infamous for committing unspeakable crimes against its citizens for the lulz, that coincidentally has not been convicted of such violations?

Ok.
I'd meant it with regards to the actions against disabled.
No idea why uk is the first as I'm sure others are also included in similar crimes, but that's how it ended up.

The UK is the first country to be investigated by the UN in relation to this Convention. Alas, you win that one every time ;p

Reminds me of a quote I saw somewhere a while back, to paraphrase:

"The only difference to distinguish between V for vendetta & the UK, is that in the film you're allowed to smoke indoors." ;)

I assume the OP is writing from one of the many UK concentration camps :D

Nah, don't worry- I retired after the last year championship.

Those "let me tell you about the totally like nazi germany/north korea/1984 totalitarian regime I'm living in" threads tend to remind me of how I heard Terry Prattchett say that wherever he went in the world, people always thought he based Ankh-Morpork on their city.

I can't really tell if you are being serious or sarcastic.

Either way, I never thought conservatism would mean "more freedom" (at least not necessarily), but just generally keeping the things the way they are (or were), promoting the values that are traditional to that area.

The only "freedom" thing I can mentally connect to conservatism is property rights... but then I am unsure if property rights are for or against freedom, maybe even both. Freedom to own property... but less freedom for other people, like if they need to get across the piece of land you happen to own.

E.g. in Finland we have this law called "jokamiehen oikeus" ("Everyman's right") which basically allows anyone to use other people's piece of land to go across, pick berries/mushrooms etc., as long as they don't disturb, go near settlements, throw trash to the nature, destroy trees etc.

Everyman's Right as a PDF document:

http://www.ym.fi/fi-FI/Ajankohtaista/Julkaisut/Esitteet/Jokamiehenoikeudet_esite(4450)

So is that against, or for, freedom? Freedom of the land property owner to decide who crosses their lands, or freedom for people in Finland to move around and take advantage of the nature (within limits)?

I found it especially baffling that you seem consider "Liberals" as something against freedom? Sarcastic, yes no maybe who gives a flying f?
