Summer of 2006. A friend rents a flat and invite 7 of us for a LAN party that lasted for 3 weeks. Each one of us brought its computer and beers. We were spending 8-12 hours a day playing. Just imagine 8 drunk idiots with red eyes running around Neverwinter (Nights), slaughtering and pillaging everything in our path. We completely wrecked the storyline. :D Also each of us were using different characters and weapons so we shared the loot and didn't fight or argue over it. Good times. Those were the days..

Less clothing, more DOTA, plenty of water, open windows, and a fan blowing on me and making me as majestic as Nicholas Cage with the sparkliness of Edward from Twilight.

Living near equator means 9 months of summer and 3 months of rain. So, 3/4 of my yearly gaming time?

Anyway, this summer I was lucky enough to win Doc's giveaway and gifted Dragon's Dogma. Being a Linux user I intend to play the game on Linux using wine,but it's not a smooth experience. The game either runs without sound or runs with sound but crashes on main menu. So this summer I play "Troubleshoot Dragon's Dogma so it will run on Linux" game

Ok, so this one time, at band camp...
I mean, at a friend's house… We were going to spend the night playing some Counter-Strike (I know, Valve... Steam… this was before Steam though) and we were all setting our computers (desktops and laptops for a grand total of 4 people) and we couldn't get one of the computers to work with the LAN. We even used hamachi… So we gave up (insterestingly the auto-correct changes "gave" to "Gabe"... hmm…) and instead of CS we spent the entire night playing Sunset Riders, Melty Blood ReACT and watching Azumanga Daioh… We only stopped for making a barbecue were fire literally surrounded my face (nothing happened, seems I had my ring of fire protection +5 when my friend threw wine to the fire while I was moving the burguers…).

Too many "..." but yeah… We still hang out sometimes, life gets in the way, but no online can ever top lan and couch multiplayer for me. This stories don't happen over the internet, they happen in the presence of your friends and family. And thank god for that damn ring :') Haha

PS: 15 years have passed since that night. We still remember it and even call it "The Supreme BBQ". We were together for almost 36 hours. I miss my youth :(

I don't have summer over here, or any other seasons for that matter. I doubt my gaming habits will change even if there was summer over here. It's all about the games to me, time don't matter at all :D

The summer time is when I play more kid friendly games. Because that's the time my sister leaves my nephew with me and I'd rather not have to come up with an explanation for him as to why I'm beating a demon to death with a mace, or killing gangsters with demonic tentacle arms. Maybe do that together in a few years.

Summers when I was a kid and free from the dread of school consisted mostly of me playing Spyro the Dragon/Ripto's Rage/Year of the Dragon or the Jak and Daxter games while my brother watched and then he would play something like Sly Cooper or Ratchet and Clank and I'd watch him play those. Good times were had with our PS1/PS2 games.

I used to leave the pc turned off when it was really hot in the summer, just so I didn't heat up the room even more. However, these days I have kids, and somehow they don't seem to care about the heat at all (I wonder if I was like that when I was young, too?).
They're not allowed to game all day, but they have a knack for wanting to game during the hottest time of day (which is fine by me, because since they are still at an age where they actually like it when I game along, it gives me an excuse to not be out in the sun).
So basically, in the summer I play kids' games during the day and my own 'grown up' games in the evening.

Except for last sunday. I go to a LAN party organised by a group of friends three times a year, one of them usually being early June. It's not even summer yet, but last sunday it was REALLY hot outside and we still held our June LAN meeting. Most people said I'm crazy for wanting to be in a room filled with pc's when it's already so hot outside, but this actually has one huge advantage; when I went outside at the end of the day, it actually felt like stepping into cold, fresh air :)

In the past I remember LAN parties with friends on the summer holidays playing Unreal Tournament 99 from morning to night, that was a great addiction and times well past.
At present, in the summer I like to play something relexante like the Psychonauts or other game platforms. Although I like the summer it is not the best time of the year to play because it is more like going for a walk to the beach than playing.

The first story that comes to mind was on a sunny day many years ago. My dear mother (who was not especially approving of my fascination with video games) commented on how beautiful a day it was outside. In an effort to seem appreciative as well, I spoke up in agreement, mentioning that I just wished I had a laptop so I could game outside while enjoying the sunshine...
Needless to say that was not exactly the response she was looking for. XD

As long as there's no glare on the screen, and the fan (well, now I have A/C) is sufficient to keep the rig from overheating, summer doesn't really change my gaming habits much. It's pretty rare these days I get to play before 7-8pm anyway.

Last summer was when I really got deep into experimenting with idle/clickers. Thankfully that seems to have passed.

It must have been 3 summers ago I played Ziggurat extensively for like 3-4 hours. I remember them quite distinctly.

A growing feeling of rage will do that.

Summer is not a term in tropical countries as it always hot whether its rainy or dry seasons. But because summer coincides with the ends of our school's term, sometimes we go on a sleepover in our friends house that had internet and got 3 pc connected side by side. In early 2000's that mean our host were rich and indeed it's funny now remember how sheltered and pampered our host-friend was (but he is a very nice guy and the family is generous).

An amusing story though happened in our class after school. My high school lan parties often located in an internet gaming cafe located 10 minutes of walk from our school. The six of us had Age of Empires II league and we had to hurry because it starting to rain hard. And when it rained it poured hard with lightning and thunder. And as we just about to cross the street about 20 meters out, BAANG, sounds of lightning crashes and we can smell burning asphalt. For a seconds we just stood still and couldn't say a word. Afterwards we just ran as fast as we can. So when we arrived drenched, we just looking at each others and realizing that we just missed being struck by not much.

It was a very rainy summer so my friends were playing games all day long (ok, ok, we did play games on sunny days too). We were getting bored a bit (we didn’t have so many games back in 90s) so we started to make some bets like beat a game without taking any damage (Prince of Persia), finish a difficult mission without producing your most powerful unit (Dune 2, last Atreides mission, without siege tank). Eventually I was challenged too and my task was to beat Another World without dying even once. If you played the game you should know how hard it was! Believe it or not I managed to accomplish it! First I had to train a lot: I reloaded each section I moved to next one only when my success ratio was above 90%. Then I practiced a few sections in a row and eventually tried to beat the whole game. And I did it! I think it’s still my most hardcore gaming achievement. For winning the bet a girl with the most beautiful voice I’ve ever heard agreed to recite The Great Improvisation from Dziady (Adam Mickiewicz) and it was awesome! Yeah, that’s gotta be my favorite gaming memory!

It's not that much different to any other time of the year, really :p Except that I tend to play games more in the evening/at night during the summer. Right now I'm working on updating my Linux Mint guide for the upcoming release of Mint 19, plus some updates for my Wine wrappers as well as some other projects.
