General Troubleshooting
-----------------------

If you're experiencing black screen / crash on launch, please try the following:

- Before starting the game, change video resolution to your desktop one (or the closest match). if that fails, try falling back to 1024x768. Video settings can be found under GOG Galaxy HERE
-- or in Start Menu HERE.
- Close any unnecessary applications running in the background, especially ones overlay-based like EVGA Precision, MSI Afterburner, GeForce Experience, FRAPS etc.
- If running multiple screen setup, try switching to a single monitor.

If none of the above helps, please send your DxDiag to our Support team HERE. The more information we have, the easier it will be to pinpoint the problem.

May the Force serve you well.

Thiev: It was a console port after all ;)

Experiment513: Is this a port or the PC release? *confused is*

I mean, the game was released for PC as well.
i think the original pc release was a port of the n64 version.

Regeaj: Ever since switching to win10 lots of GOG games dont work anymore, ...
See, there's the problem...
I'm pretty sure GOG staff are working their asses off to make stuff compatible to WX... But when MS decides to cut certain features and APIs that older games need, there's only so much you can do...

My suggestion would be to have a backup W7 for things that MS broke with WX.

But, if the Wiki-page is correct, they all have the same release date which is usually not the case when it's a port. :-P

Release Windows
NA: May 18, 1999 [2]
Nintendo 64
NA: May 18, 1999 [2]
Game Boy Color
NA: December 1999
Macintosh
NA: December 16, 1999
Dreamcast
NA: April 4, 2000

Absolutely. Blaming it on GOG even though Microsoft is doing the damage is definitely not the right way.
Nice for all fans....

No Thursdays new game? .....
broke down and bought. Fortunately the game works for me on my win8.1 desktop. Bummer that folks are having issues with it. It's a fun one.

Thats why i won't switch to horrible win 10 which is a bad OS (maybe the worst OS they had ), many games don't work
and has serious privacy issue or better put: doesn't have any privacy if you dont install the 'patches' some people made
so evil Win 10 might arrive because we have to, but on a new setup , a new PC cause the old pc will stay with old win 7 as long as old hardware works.

GOG gives me this solution. Thanks GOG Support:

Thank you for trying the troubleshooting steps. Our Product Team is investigating the issue and looking for a fix.

Could you check if replacing the ddraw.dll file with dgVoodoo2 dll files makes the game work better?
You can download dgVoodoo2 from:
http://dege.freeweb.hu/dgVoodoo2/dgVoodoo2.html
or an archive with just the required dll files from:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/cczl8ge6r0c7rh9/dgVoodoo2_55.zip?dl=0

Place the 3 dll files in the game's directory (in the Galaxy Client click the game, click MORE > Manage installation > Show folder), for the offline installer the default is:
C:\GOG Games\STAR WARS Racer
You might want to make a backup of the ddraw.dll file first.

Please let me know if this helps.

dgVoodoo2 : i have it seems to work for Gorky 17 as well but it can never bring back the game to its old glory when it first arrived cause the hardware was different and the graphics looked much better then the awful graphics you get from dgVoodoo2, thats the problem you get if devs rely on a special GPU to get a great videogame, they should never program for a special kind of GPU ... a good developer delivers games that run on any Nvidia or other dedicated GPU (no onboard GPU).

This is retarded - Thats LITERALLY GOGs business model - Selling old games that WORK.

So you would throw money at GOG, get a game that doesnt work, but then its....Microsofts fault? Windows 10 has been out for three years now. Long enough for GOG to update their games.

Stop making excuses. They are selling a faulty product.

I use win10 pro.

With dgvoodoo2 the game runs well.

A lot of pre-winxp games (especially from CD) don't work on win10, and it's not GOG fault, it's Microsofts fault. If you look at a post just above your's GOG does have a solution. GOG can't fix a broken OS that Microsoft made

tinyE: Oh I know they are normal. :P That's not what I meant sorry. I've had this game for years on disc, I know it by heart (I actually have this really nice poster that came with it), but I was just curious what those sections were. I never really had it explained.
Think (if my memory is to be trusted) it's simulating low/anti-gravity

Stop misusing "literally". Also, it's not their business model.

Well, apparently they did work for you until you switched to Windows 10, so you got a game that worked. It's your fault if you expect it to work properly on a terrible OS which is regularly getting screwed by updates. You bought it for a different OS before and it was fine. If someone buys it for Windows 10 and it's marked as working for Windows 10 and then it doesn't, they can always request a refund.
