Let's turn the page.

Visual Novels have arrived on GOG.com! Our first selection includes acclaimed games, revered for their intricate artwork and stimulating stories, up to 66% off until May 29, 1pm UTC.

Higurashi When They Cry Chapters 1-5 (25% off): Spawning a popular anime and manga series, Higurashi is a "sound novel", where meticulously designed audio plays a crucial part in these unique stories. Chapters 1-5 are available today, with Chapter 6 slated for release in the near future.

fault (50% off): Sometimes it takes a healthy dose of pulp sci-fi and a dash of fantasy to weave a powerful cinematic story about the human condition. These two episodes of the ongoing series star the perky princess Selphine and her sarcastic guardian Ritona, as they desperately try to make their way back to their homeland.

Sunrider series (66% off): An alternate universe, intergalactic strife, mech combat, high school, and love all around. Sunrider: Mask of Arcadius (free!), Liberation Day, and Sunrider Academy are a beloved and unique mix of strategy, romance, and visual novel. De-censor patch optional, but come on.

eden* (66% off): Stock up on tissues. This critically-acclaimed love story on a dying planet is a real tear-jerker told with stunning cinematic flair. Humanity is about to be wiped out by a red star but this story is destined to stick around for much longer.

lostwolfe: hcg?
Well... for japanese adult games... the pictures without the game.

avatar
lostwolfe: i think you and i are seeing very different things in those images.

i am seeing a collection of thumbnails where [for the most part] the creator of the videos went out of their way to find the "cutest" girls they could in those games and then put them into awkward-ish positions.
avatar
lostwolfe: i guess i should put it another way: i am against objectification. everything i've seen in those thumbnails is more-or-less about objectifying people.
Shooters are objectifying enemies.
RPGs are objectifying enemies.
Strategy games are objectifying enemy soldiers - and your own.

In a sense most (good) adult VNs or dating sims are quite the contrary - the characters have extensive backstories and actual "character". They are written for you to care about them.

toxicTom: Got some examples?
I come under the brand name Tsukiware in 15 hours from now my latest release Tower of Five Heart's releases on MangaGamers store. That one is a lesbian kemonomimi(animal ears) visual novel where you play as the princess chosing the next partner of hers from the surounding kingdoms its mostly cute/light comedy. My previous title was a dnd inspired romp that has slight leanings towards being gay/yaoi orientated those some would argue its not. Kinda imagine if a bad dm/gm was trying to add adult content to the game in a silly way. Its very comedy orientated. I've also got this bullethell spin off but its in demo stage and a much older demo is on newgrounds. I actually come from a level design background in the industry but at some point i started to do pr of dev logs and eventually got involved in marketing for some localization companies to indie devs to working on my own games. Who knows where I'l take the content in the long run.

Found you. I wouldn't get my hopes up too much on seeing your games here tbh.

But kudos for doing what you like and good luck. :-)

Drakkoone: Gross, Sekai Project is spreading.

Note that I have nothing against VN and porn, it's only a problem with Sekai Project, a disgusting company.
avatar
liamphoenix: Sekai is like the VN equivalent of Aldorlea for RPG Maker games, they have some good ones and they have some real garbage, and if you buy Humble Bundles you've definitely seen the garbage ones.

I picked up the Sekai bundle because it had one game I wanted, and the bundle was less than buying the game, found two more in it I enjoyed and a whole lot that I couldn't even force myself to finish despite getting them for free.
The VNs themselves are not the issue, he says that in his post. His issues are with Sekai Project’s business practices. There are several YouTube videos that elaborate on this disgust much better than I can, but I think it has to to with how they handle new licenses and Kickstarter.

Edit, regarding GOG and Curation:
As someone who cares about the quality of games on GOG (that first G used to stand for Good, after all), I do feel that they are still taking care to curate their store well. The only novels that give me a pretty good first impression were the Sunrider sequel and spinoff. The 3 thumbnails that aren’t Sunrider do not have any sort of sex appeal. Moe, perhaps, but that doesn’t go hand-in-hand.

Edit 2: Bleh, links don’t work. Check Wikipedia for more info on Moe (slang).

Oh yea I don't think amazeballs of my current line up its pretty small time budget right now I'm talking of future things. I have worked with people with other games on gog over the years thou.
Today I talked with a colleague of mine and she would be interested to buy one or more of the VN on GOG for her daughter. However she wanted to know if there is one VN without sex or nudity involved - preferably horror or suspense. Could somebody suggest any of those VN here on GOG in this case?

I think the Sunrider games are the only "eroge" of the current batch. Higurashi When They Cry Hou go into the suspense/conspiracy direction. For horror I'd suggest Corpse Party which is not exactly a VN but works similar.

For horror the closes one would be Higurashi it's X chapters which each chapter set around the same charecters but with one being the killer, think of it as a horror groundhogs day where these guys are forced to die in horrible ways everyday. There was a follow up which was the "anwsers" arc which kinda explained why this kept happening. The one GOG has is called the "question" arc.

Sunrider is out of the question because of the RTS elements. She is basically just looking for a good story to read with anime characters in it. The other one I will keep in mind and forward the information to her. Thanks a lot.

Thank you very much for this. I will forward it to my colleague.

(+1 for both of you)

Higurashi.

There is also Corpse Party on GOG, though one scene involves a murderer attempting to molest a character - but is interrupted by another antagonist. Deaths involve hammers, telekinetically smashed against walls, strangling, sliced in half by string, and so forth.

Seems weird to me about permitting violent and horrible death, while avoiding sexuality.

Corpse Party
Surprised that no one bought up demonbane.

Sure, there is the usual sex pictures in it that gave visual novels a bad rep, but aside from that, we have a really interesting story and honestly, one of the more weirder one.

Never the less, demonbane was interesting enough that i went and finished that story.

I guess if anyone is interested in cthulhu mythos, please give demonbane a read.
Eh, still don't care for VNs but this is why I prefer this over Steam.....

....or maybe Geraldt wanted to give us those AND free Unreal to keep us busy while he fights Yoshimitsu.

Ah, hell, I love you daddy Geraldt!

P.S. I have only known Saya from Nitroplus Blasterz on the PS4. Please do not request Saya no Uta. FOR THE LOVE OF YOUR FAVOURITE DEITY DO NOT EVEN LOOK UP THE GAME WITH THIS CHARACTER!!!!!

God bless you hypocritical puritans, purge those that like something you don't like until there's nothing left.
