I'm against violence and don't beat my games.
The oldest for me is probably Final Fantasy (1987)...Also the only time I've beaten it was with a solo black belt/ninja.

some are in to that though
Any Sierra 80's game, including titles like Mystery House, Wizard and the Princess etc. You can add Lucasfilm there as well.
Commander Keen (1990) is the oldest I can name, but probably not the oldest.
Missle command, used to clock it, at the local cab [taxi] office. I'm proud I was around when computer gaming was taking off, now people just want great graphics. look at pac man / space invaders / defender for example. those games took skill [there was no home computers to practice on] noway was I going to lose my 10p in 30 seconds..

[edit] if you play this game say on MAME, make sure you get the missles before they start diverting in all directions, on the arcade game it was ok, it had a track-ball, it's hard with a joystick or keyboard on home systems.

Old man out

[edit] this game was TOUGH defender https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GdUlS_cSMoE lost untold 10p's on this

[edit2] and don't forget about Asteroids

Sorry people just feeling nostalgic, I envy people born today, computer games in the furture will be like the holodeck in star trek.

This thread brought back so many memories, thanks.

oh forgot about Galaxian https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kQe9n4ftrTc

Ultima (1981).
I'm not sure, but probably the original Castlevania trilogy on NES, 1986-1989. Most games that I've played older than that are Hi-Score games that don't have ending.
Kings Quest for me. The very first game I beat though was Ducktales. I still remember the moment quite clearly.
Retail Games:

Adventureland (Scott Adams) (1982 - the re-release with graphics)
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (1984)
Wishbringer (1985)

Pending...soon:

Akalabeth (courtesy of Gog!) (1980)
Hey, the rock is still valid! XD

Anyway, probably Prince of Persia 1 (1990) on DOS or TMNT (1990) on the C64.

It would have been Bubble Bobble (1989), if I could manage to beat the end boss with my friend, damn!

EDIT: ah King's Quest 1 is even earlier! (1984)

Ultima IV from 1985, a game older than me.
