DosFreak: No let them go as broke as possible so they can be picked up as cheaply as possible and someone can finally do something meaningful with it.
That's a big gamble. If Microsoft buys them, we will NEVER see any more games here. Microsoft loves DRM.

You mean so they can be bought by a company like Microsoft and never be DRM-free again.

Yes, but:
1) They already shut down online services for their older games. Many games on GOG lack MP anyway.
2) All we need is uPlay unbundling and GOG may be able to help with that. Baking in DLC would also be nice.
3) I'm not asking them to implement Galaxy achievements, nor even cloud saves. They're nice, but not essential.

Would be cool to have more of their games here, though all the recent releases on Steam (after a rather long time of not releasing anything anywhere but their own uplay) contain a good dose of drm. Sometimes various drms within one game.
I don't really follow microsoft, they might be lovers of drm for all I know, but ubi seems to love drm way too much.

Heck, I was looking forward to the release of Scott Pilgrim over on Steam (after it was available on epicfailstore for a good while), but those burks sprinkled it all over with 3 drms (ubi account+denuvo+vmprotect)... like, seriously, no thanks ubi.

Gog releases would make sense, but someone at ubi is really high on their own drm supply.

Many companies love DRM, but they are still willing to publish some of their older games without DRM. How many games has Ubisoft published on GOG? 57.
How many games has Microsoft published? 1... and that's only because the developers had existing agreements to release the game on various platform BEFORE Microsoft acquired them.

We are already starting to see interference from Microsoft. Loads of Obsidian's games are on GOG from various publishers before Microsoft. Now that Microsoft took over, Obsidian's latest game "Pentiment" is strangely absent from GOG. We may still see Fallout 4 here some day from Bethesda, it being released long before Microsoft bought them, but we will not see Starfield... Nor will PlayStation see it for that matter.

PlayStation have also released only 1 game on GOG, but their release was not forced by any old contracts. They did so willingly.

We also know that Microsoft loves DRM from their other products, like Windows, especially 11, Office, etc. They actively discourage businesses from using on-premises servers, instead heavily promoting Azure. Do you remember the always-online requirement they tried to implement for Xbox One? They also tried to kill the idea of game disc sharing.

Microsoft is one of the biggest DRM-lovers out there. The only other company that may love DRM more than Microsoft is Rockstar. We have a couple of Remedy games here. The ones that are missing are published either by Microsoft or Rockstar. What a surprise. Convincing Ubisoft, while difficult, is still far more realistic than convincing Microsoft or Rockstar.

No worries, I believe you dude and applaud your effort here with ubi, make no mistake.
I'm not into consoles because of their closed-off nature among other things, so I don't know what crap happens behind their high walls, but it doesn't surprise me with stuff like always online etc. That's pretty much how game sharing or reselling on used market was supposed to be gotten rid off - jewelcase dvd with printed cd key for online activation tied to your account. I think my last game like that which I bought was Dragon age 1 iirc, the key worked on origin eventually. Checked it out of curiosity, run away in haste.

With microsoft it will only get worse. At some point their os and software might become subscription based, along with other stuff. I don't really care for them though. I'm not their target audience anyway, although I was interested in the new msflight sim, but not enough to get modern windows, ms account and all the drm magic packed in just for that one game.

Rockstar is quite a sad story for me, I love some of their earlier games or games that they publish at least. Well too bad.

The pond is still vast on pc regardless of how many smaller fish / IPs these corporations swallow up... so no point in crawling to them accepting their terms of play as I see it.

My point was how much they don't care about what we want regardless of it's difficulty.

As much as MS is one of the worst companies I think there's a higher chance the Xbox division could be convinced to release on GOG before todays Ubisoft can be. One has been attempting to repair their image for close to a decade while the other constantly looking for ways to destroy it's remains ever more effectively.

Only time will tell if this attempt will be effective at all, but it is better to have tried and failed, than not to have tried at all, so I applaud this endeavor and have added my own voice and vote to it.

At the very least, it can be shown that the people (gamers) have tried to help and encourage Ubisoft to look at the bigger picture.

I've had a Ubisoft account for years, and never been spammed by them, and I rarely get bad emails. I've never bought anything online from them either, just gotten the odd free game from them. I have in the distant past though, bought many of their games on disc.

In all reality I don't care for what Ubisoft's makeup is these days, but I certainly respect and care about those who made the games they sell, so I definitely want to support them. If that means supporting Ubisoft as well, so be it. As with games, a provider should be focusing on the majority of gamers who are decent folk, and not introducing DRM because of the bad few. Such is the case with Ubisoft, where we should focus on the good folk therein involved, not the bad.

Bethesda released Skyrim here after their acquisition by MS, so we can assume they were given some freedom to make decisions. Of course it's not guarantee for any future game but reassures.

Yes, but that's a 12 year old game. What about Pentiment? We didn't get that, despite having all other Obsidian games here. We may still get Fallout 4, which is 7 years old, predating the acquisition by Microsoft, but we will almost certainly not get Starfield. Not in 5 years, not in 15.

Very much agree. I'm very skeptical, but if someone wants more Ubi games here and it doesn't take long to create an account and post in the thread, what's the harm in trying? Like with voting on the wishlist

I wish all GOG customers (and customers of Steam competitors in general) would be more vocal about releases.

----------------------

As an aside, I noticed that Ubisoft has a contact form on their website (allowing up to 4000 characters). That might have a (slightly) greater chance of reaching executives. I'll send a message this evening.

SargonAelther: What about Pentiment? We didn't get that, despite having all other Obsidian games here.
Pentiment got released on November 15th 2022.
That was just two months ago.

How long did it take the other Obsidian games to come to GOG?
Have all those been day one releases?

Also: ALL the Obsidian games?
- Alpha Protocol (Sega)
- South Park: The Stick of Truth (Ubisoft)
- Pathfinder Adventures (Asmodee)
- Grounded (XBox Games Studio)

Ok, most games, not all. Release dates vary, because they've used many different publishers over the years. Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire came immediately. Outer Worlds came immediately after Epic one year exclusivity ended. It varies, but that's not the point. Let's look at the other Xbox-published game, that yo brought up yourself.
- Grounded was released in 27/09/2020. Still not on GOG, due to Microsoft being the publisher.
- South Park is Published by Ubisoft and there are no new Ubisoft games here post uPlay era.
- Alpha Protocol has an expired licensed song that Sega does not want to renew. It's not on sale anywhere.
- Pathfinder Adventures is still missing, but again it's by a publisher that doesn't have many games on GOG. This isn't the only game that's missing from them.

At the end of the day, we have 1 game from Xbox Game Studios on GOG due to pre-existing obligations and 57 Ubisoft games pre-uPlay. Sure you can say that that was old Ubisoft and that the new one is worse, but then I will say that the one game from Xbox that we have on GOG doesn't count at all, since it was forced.

Whichever company is less DRM-obsessed NOWADAYS will be determined by whichever one of them releases a new game on GOG voluntarily.

Also it's not like we have to choose Ubisoft or Microsoft. We can nag both of them. I only chose Ubisoft, because I like more games from them. From Microsoft, I'd only really want Fable and Halo.
That's a good idea! I'll write them as well.

I will probably purchase 8 more Ubisoft video games from Steam in the next five months, only video games that have both multiplayer and singleplayer, not video games that are 100% singleplayer only. Then I will write negative reviews asking Ubisoft to stop shutting down their multiplayer servers and to release their video games for sale 100% Digital Rights Management (DRM) free.
