In re Achievements: Yes, most those games got achievements and overlay or cloud save, Medieval. I downloaded Galaxy and only after I downloaded Edna&Harvey and checked for updates could I see the patchlog with information on the newest revision. It updates the Java client which is necessary because the whole game is written in that language. Factorio got a longer list of changes and updates, none of which got to do with achievements. Both seem to have been released rather recently. 02-05 Factorio, while Edna on 01-12.

I can't say what revision Per Aspera should be at according to Galaxy. Developers never cared to add patch notes to either Galaxy or offline installer library ... What I do know is that their updates are rolled out quite fast in comparison and that both Airtable and GOGdb show 1.0.0.6xxxxx and this is also the revision in this game's main menu. Offline installers are at 1.0.0.5xxxxx still. It is the most recent addition as far as patches/updates is concerned.

This can't be the case with Project Warlock. The update for Galaxy was added 2020-12-04 according to Airtable. In fact it is 1.0.2.1 in game, in Galaxy and offline installer according to the website library. GOGdb shows the same revision 1.0.3.1. Without patch log I don't know what it is supposed to contain. Galaxy shows no update so ...

I only know about the above mentioned games, but if you would ask me, they may contain technical updates for achievements also with lots of general updates and bug-fixes.

You seem to misunderstand what I wrote. All I said is that numbers shouldn't differ in the sense that in Galaxy there is a different numbering system than in the offline library on the website. Not that the versions should be the same which of course they should be ... Without delays ...

No, I got you perfectly and was reacting to that. Even when the installers are in sync, GOG occasionally finds some way to make that unclear because of extra strings in the version naming and so on... versioning consistency is hard to come by and not strictly enforced, sadly.

Fair enough. GOG could implement and enforce a uniform version naming rule. I don't know whether this would do any good, considering how some or many developers can't care less to even publish patch-logs. At least you are able to tell when there is a new patch and what it contains by visiting Steam. While there begging for a release or information when it will become available here seems to have become part of the game as well. One positive example Per Aspera / Raw Fury - Tlön Studios. No patch-log but timely release of patches and updates on GOG. Both Galaxy and offline.

There are several unclear and at least one/two false positives in that list.

In your link, the dev said there is some technical issue with GOG providing an update to the offline installer, and later he edited that now the update is available. You act as if you own part of the company.

It is not normal for companies to release some "monthly status reports" of their daily work to their freaking customers.

Are you really expecting daily updates to the offline installers? I've never really expected that, in fact I thought they usually wait to some major update before they update it to the offline installers? I'm fine with the idea that the offline installers are updated less often than the Galaxy versions... as long as they are updated at some point. And I don't even use Galaxy.

I recall someone pointed out to me in this forum a couple of months ago that the creation of offline installers is indeed automated, but I got an impression from there that the creation of updated offline installers is triggered only on some major branch updates. I wish I could find that discussion...

Yes, this one update is available now and nobody knows if this has been done manually. It still has not been confirmed that GOG fixed the underlying issue which they also never communicated.

I guess I have to make one point more clear. I am well aware that the creation of the offline installers takes more time than Galaxy updates. I never expected it to be otherwise. I know for sure that these offline installers are created autoomatically so no need to search for the thread you mentioned. The point is that there has not been any offline installer updated for me since about a week or so and this is very unusual. So what I am talking about is not the usual delay between Galaxy updates and offline installers but rather a broken offline installer system (confirmed to a dev) without any communication to the customer base. All I want is some feedback from GOG as to when this will be fixed OR if it has been fixed and offline installers will still be updated in a few days. Nothing more.

You say "as long as they are updated at some point". What do you consider a reasonable delay between galaxy and offline?

Because when I maintained a similar list on MaGog, there were tens of cases of delays in the 1-6 month range, and several as long as two years.

I'm OK with my offline installers being updated after the Galaxy ones. And for them to come with less features, including no multiplayer, no achievements, etc.

Of course, it means I should pay less than the Galaxy users, since I get an inferior service. So why is GOG asking me the same price for my games than what Galaxy users pay?

Transparency on GOG? Dream on! That has been forbidden for quite some time now. GOG's current policy is keeping silent and waiting for problems to disappear by themselves.

And it wouldn't surprise me the least if GOG were ro phase out the offline installers in the near future. It's the way they want to go. That's quite clear from the preferential treatment the Galaxy versions get. And from the fact that GOG discontinued the Downloader. And from their attempt to bundle Galaxy with all offline installers. By now GOG wasn't even ashamed to use DRM to promote Galaxy with their Cyberpunk rewards DLC.

Offline installers will get less and less updates until eventually they will be discontinued as unwanted relic from the past.

I have purchases here, so I am not as eager to risk a ban for "political posts." This issue, however, i think is worthy taking to ban. What good is buying games on GOG when i'd have to use DRM? I don't think we have much to loose in this issue. I suggest that if this post is deleted, we make sure gog is aware (come wot think of it, why does this sound like i'm fighting a ruler rather than making terms with a company I do business with?). Don't you dare hold my shit hostage, gog.

However, we should keep this civil. Clearly if the thread is removed, it's all about keeping the information from appearing to others. No need to spam or anything like that: just ensure the topic is always available by reposting when necessary. As customers we need to decided that GOG doesn't get to make this topic go away. I also recommend we keep off-gog contact to some degree to enxure that we're aware of actions taken by GOG should it come ot this.
