Carradice: Come on! You can do it! (guessing the title, not the digging) :-)

This large country.... eventually split into two... with lots of conflict about it....

Flyingfluffypiglet: Well if you insist on me making a fool of myself, here you go: Settlers. Happy now? :-D :-D

Jeets2: Civilization? And the man is Gandhi.

Flyingfluffypiglet: Ah yes, the glasses.... Dunno about the false teeth but wouldn't be surprised if you were the winner at guessing that sadistically badly described game ;-)
Yes! The Settlers was closer than Saboteur, nonetheless!

Jeets2: Civilization? And the man is Gandhi.
Yessir!! Congratulations!!!!

Mahatma Gandhi, a man of peace, was such an assh0le in the original Civilization. Not only was he war-mongering, he sure loved his nuclear weapons as well.

To greet you, he might say something like this...

'Greetings from M. Gandhi, ruler and King of the Indians...
Our words are backed
with NUCLEAR WEAPONS!'

Crazy, right? :D Gandhis's behaviour has become a staple (or a running joke) of the whole Civilization series. He loves his nukes and loves using them even more.

Sooo... NEXT!!!

Jeets2: I figured it out when he said the man is dead in real life and his persona is different in the game. Peaceful in real life and nuclear warmonger in the game. The teeth and glasses clues didn't help or hinder me.
Whichever road your grey cells took to figuring it out, you did and so well done you.

Closer perhaps indeed, but still not close enough and I really suck at this. Still digging...

Empty corridors full of monsters, you can teleport into walls but then you die, lots and lots of typing required.

Surely not The typing of the dead
Im confused about the empty corridors which are also apparently full at the same time, with monsters of all things! Tells me it's an fps though.
I think I've played some fps type games that are buggy including death by wall but can't remember too well since it's not my favorite genre.
Confused again about the last clue about lots of typing. Tells me it's not an fps though since I don't know any fps with mass typing required.
All in all, well done in describing a video game badly!

Most fps games use a lot of typing, though, in a way (WASD).

Is it Doom 2? Last boss is a wall.
Placing blocks inside of a jar, making sure they fit into four lines at a time...
