I do love different things about SS1 and SS2, but they are both good in their own right.
You would think that they (and the Ultima Underworld games) would be ripe for a revival, even if you just updated the graphics and interface.
Ahh, now I'm gonna dream about the Ultima series being remade by a Richard Garriot that has got the MMO bug out of his system....

You and me both mate. Hey maybe we could kidnap him and do exploratory surgery...

I would think that showing him some of his earlier successes in all their glory and comparing them to the limp reception of tabula rasa would do it, but if we need to get the scalpels out...

You would need to bring him down from the orbit he's circling on these days first.

Aliasalpha: I don't know how much SS2 improved over 1 but I found 1 to be very clumsy and whilst the ideas looked good, I felt like I was forever fighting with the controls and never got to have any fun with the game

lowyhong: I think both had pros and cons, but like what drmlessgames said, SS1 had cyberspace; plus hacking was better handled than Shock 2's trial-n-error
However, I prefer System Shock 2, simply because it is less Ultima Underworld-ish. Not that I don't like UU, but I feel SS2 had better atmosphere and was more "lived in" than SS1

I have played ultima underworld the stygian abyss only the early levels, but it's almost as much of an awesome game as SS1 is. They look similar because they share the same engine. Actually, i prefer SS1, since SS2 looks too much "Thief"-ish to me. :D SS2 used the same engine that powered the first Thief games too. An improved control key scheme for SS1 would make it a better game that it is now. There was a project that aimed at rewriting the SS1 engine from scratch, to be able to use native modern resolutions and being able to re-map keys, i think it's still going on. SS2 while good, was too long, too many fetching errands to run around and in dark, boring places like warehouses. : P

Personally, I really wish there wasn't as many trolls posting stupid stuff on the wishlist. Either nonsensical crap, games that don't exist (Freelancer 2), or games that aren't even that old yet like World in Conflict.
I hope that GOG gets some good point and click adventures, especially those outside the Lucasarts stable like the the two EA Sherlock Holmes games as they are still far superior in gameplay to the present day ones.
Another package that would be nice to see would be the entire Ultima 7 package.

Syndicate Wars would be awesome to have too.

I believe I've also seen a mod attempt at creating SS1 in SS2. I'll see if I can find it later, as Googling brings no luck now

The System Shock Hack Project?
Still going, it seems. Not sure how far they've gotten with it so far.

That would likely be the Citadel Conversion Project which hasn't seen an update in about 3 years. Probably dead.

I've been wanting the ole Quest for Glory, King's Quest, and Space Quest games for years now. They would fit in perfect on this site, too. Obviously GOG doesn't have a partnership with Sierra yet(if sierra is even around still).
Sierra rereleased the Space Quest and Larry games in a 'bundle pack' in the UK, I don't know about the others like QFG, Police Quest and the like. Though as far as I know they didn't even do what GOG does and make them usable in Vista or XP.

yea thats the problem, my friend gave me his QF5 discs to use, but they wouldn't work right on Vista, even when trying to run in older compatability modes. Someday, I hope they'll either release them bundled in the store or here on GOG.

have you tried dosbox or scummvm?
It's Vivendi that has the distribution rights for the sierra catalogue at the moment, who are part of Activision/Blizzard AFAIK.
Having lurked over at AGD Interactive for a while (they made remakes of KQ1, KQ2 and QfG2), it seems Vivendi were good with them, allowing them to release their remakes without any hassle.
I wouldn't be suprised if they hooked up with GoG at some point. The sooner the better really!
edit: just had a look at the vivendi homepage, seems like a pretty huge company! didn't quite appreciate that.

No, I didn't try those at the time, I should've. But if I can get him to bring em back I will, and you'll get the credit if it works :)

Happy Birthday.
And to everyone who says that limited ammo, clumsy retard PCs, and guns made out of futuristic play-dough are necessary to creating tension in horror games, my reply is "Aliens vs. Predator 1."
Which, incidentally is one of the reasons I started this thread. I'm annoyed that great games like Age of Wonders Shadow Magic, Crusader, and Aliens vs. Predator are all buried beneath Lucasarts games and the completely overrated System Shock 2.
