I guess the lack of big ideas is the cause of my gripes... because all I want is a functional and secure operating system to run the software and hardware I choose. Windows has been the best for a while for out-of-the-box compatability, but the actual basis of Windows has changed very little for the average end-user up to XP (can't say about vista, as I have no experience.)
This meant they added a lot of "extras" to compensate for the fact that they were only upgrading an existing system rather than creating a new one each time.
Every time I've got a new version of windows, the system requirements have jumped, and yet there seems to be only small improvements.
What I could do with is a simple system that is secure, stable, quick and with good hardware/software compatibility. Is this too much to ask?
P.S. Sorry for the thread hijack... not my original intention!
