Square Enix is and always will be my second favourite video game company. They made Final Fantasy I & II: Dawn of Souls for GBA. Final Fantasy III DS for the NDS along with Final Fantasy IV DS. And aswell they made Final Fantasy IV, V and VI Advance for the GBA. So why have they not gotten around to making a remake of Final Fantasy VII??? FF III and IV DS were 2D games turned into 3D games while simultaneously being ported(with advanced game play) to a different system. So how hard is it to make Final Fantasy VII DS? A 3D game ported while keeping the 3D. It shouldn't be hard. Square Enix has no valid reason I know of why they shouldn't be in production of this. As Games Radar put it...
"Remaking Final Fantasy VII for the new generation would be akin to a license to print money."
Discuss.

Keep in mind that FF7 came on 3 CD's, so a direct port to the DS simply isn't going to happen, period. However, if they were to do a remake, using the same engine that FF 3 and 4 used, only with some enhancements, then that would be quite possible. Keep in mind, however, that they still haven't remade FF 5 or 6 for the DS yet.
I'd rather have new Final Fantasy games for the DS or more remakes of good Final Fantasy's.
It's pining for the fjords... wait, did I just say that?
too many people have an idea of the game that is not the actual game. if they were to release the actual game, they'd get hate mail saying they changed it.
I found FF7 to be boring as hell. More importantly though, wtf is up with Square charging premium for their DS games?!
FFVII is the best in series (along with FFVI) IMO. It haven't age so bad, the graphics are awful, yes, but who cares? Materia system is the best magic-summon system in series, the story is fairly good, characters are very charismatic, combat system is old-school, Tifa's tits, the music is great (specially the boss battle one), etc.
Wasn't it only on 3CDs because one of the devs had a stiffy for keeping everything uncompressed?
Also it was total crap in my opinion (or maybe I bought the crappy version with no story and tedious repetitious combat with exaggerated special effects that had little ingame impact) but if they think they can port it, good luck to em

Yes, you must have bought the no story version. Also, if you think combat is "tedious and repetitious" you shouldn't try the Shin Megami Series.
Well I tried a few JRPGs after FF7 but then it seemed like it really WAS the best of them and so I've pretty well written off the genre as a "not for me" one.
Final Fantasy 6 is the best. Seven fails in comparison.
I'm astounded at the number of people here on gog.com who don't appreciate FF7 for the masterpiece that it is.
I'm very disappointed in you lot :\.

Oh, seven is alright, if you like bishonen, homosexual undertones, and all male gang rape.

What's not to like! :D
Cool, another GR fan...
anyways, sadly, FFVII would be a complicated game to port to a hand held; it came in three discs...
