Some time ago, I finished a game called King's Bounty The Legend. I found the game a lot of fun, so I'd like to try out other turn-based strategy games. The thing is that before I played King Bounty, I wasn't interested in these types of games AT ALL so I never gave them a chance and because of that, I don't really know any of them by name. So what im asking for is some good suggestions for someone new to these types of games.
Thanks.
similar to king's bounty?
well: heroes of might and magic is a great game
as well as disciples available from gog:

I'll second the recommendations for both Disciples 2 and the HOMM series (if you need to pick just one I'd personally recommend HOMM 3). Civilization 4 is an absolute must have, and along the same line I'd also highly recommend Alpha Centauri. Another good one is Fantasy Wars (don't let the generic name put you off); there's also a sequel called Elven Legacy, although I haven't had a chance to play it yet. You might also want to check out Battle for Wesnoth (it's free, open source, and actually quite good).

Yep, something similar.
Just added Disciples on personal wishlist, probably gonna buy it in the near future.

All right, I'll check them out, thanks.

Because HoMaM series have been mentioned, then I recommend you to try Age of Wonders 2 (either Wizard's Throne or Shadow Magic) or free game Battle for Wesnoth.
For a greater focus on the tactical combat, you could also look at games like Incubation or the UFO series. There is a great fansite for Incubation which has the demos available for download, and there's a decent remake of UFO in the works here. The more recent commercial UFO games (e.g. Aftershock) actually make a good introduction to the earlier, more complicated ones.
Jagged Alliance 2, also available on GOG, is a great tactical combat simulator, but I wouldn't recommend it unless you find you really enjoy that style of game.
For more strategic combat, Battle for Wesnoth has already been recommended. It's a great game and there are several campaigns to keep you occupied for weeks.
For a bit more of a mixed strategic and tactical game, I fully support the recommendations for Disciples and HOMM 3. I would also suggest looking into the Warlords series (not Battlecry), as it has a similar mechanic to Disciples.
For a strategic world domination experience, you really can't go wrong with Civilization 4, or Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri, as alreay recommended. There's a recently released Civ 4 pack, including several expansions as well as Colonization.

klaymen: then I recommend you to try Age of Wonders 2 (either Wizard's Throne or Shadow

Besides HoMM, that s an excellent choice.
Freaking Civ series. Always Civ.
if you really liked king's bounty, note that HOMM was inspired (heavily) by the original kings bounty like ten years ago, and the modern king's bounty is pretty much the same game as the newest HOMM, but concentrating on one hero instead of an empire.
so yeah, HOMM should be your first choice if you liked King's Bounty
Galactic Civilizations II.
If you liked Kings Bounty, you should probably look into Fantasy Wars and Elven Legacy too (almost certainly the same developers).

Amen. I perfer Shadow Magic as it's a tad easier (I found AoW2 as challanging as stretching a balloon over a steering wheel) but both are excellent.
I also like the abilities of the wizard to hole up ina tower somewhere and dish are extremely long ranged damage as also change his entire domain... Awesome stuff.
Lords of Magic is similar also though the combat looks the same though is real time. The rest is turn-based.

How does Elven Legacy compare to KB? I looked at EL a while ago, but then I got distracted (by Kings Bounty, actually).
I was going to suggest Age of Wonders and Disciples.. Take note that the actual combat in both is different from KB. In AoW the battle map is larger, in Disciples there is no movement in combat, you only have to choose who attacks who.
<shrugs> try out some demos. But I got the impression you liked the combat in KB. In that case, scrap some suggestions like GalCiv II, Civilization and Alpha Centauri. They're great games, but not at all like KB.

Hi - we have a lot of Turn-Based strategies at GOG.com :) Besides already recommended Disciples 2 and first Heroes of Might and Magic we have:
Jagged Alliance
Jagged Alliance 2
M.A.X.
Fallout Tactics (strategy game)
Fallou 1 and 2 (rpg games! but with great t-b battles!)
I personally recommend those games - especially M.A.X. and Jagged Alliance 2... and whole Fallout series! One of the best Turn Based games ever!

I wish I could say, but I simply haven't had enough time to play either of them enough.
