ilves: I just bought The Witcher EE off steam yesterday for about $30... played through the prologue and a bit of the first chapter, seems very good so far. In terms of picking skills to improve when leveling, is it possible to do a jack of all trades or is it better to specialize in combat or magic or whatever? I guess I'm asking whether the amount of bronze/silver/gold tokens you get is enough that by the end of the game you can pretty much have everything upgraded...

You can go crazy with bronze talents. I finished the game 4 times and always ended up with too many bronze talents then I ever needed. When it comes to silver and gold talents specializing is a good idea.
The Witcher is actually my second favourite computer game. I highly recommend it.
Yeah. about specializing.
Should one invest in silver and regular sword or just one and beat the crap out of everyone with one kind of weapon?
(I am in Wyzima, left prison and saved three whores from bandits. I got my first silver talent so I wonder where should i invest it. Also: inventory is too small :). I tend to collect everything I came across)

If you do all the quests you should end the game at 38-40 lvl. At that level I was able to max all significant bronze talents. Stats, both fighting styles, and signs. I did not put any silver talents in inteligence, and only acivated both silver and steel fighting styles to see those cool moves during fighting. You can put silver and gold talents in both steel and silver fighting styles, but be sure you'll miss on signs. Your choice.

You'll need to use both silver and regular swords throughout the game, so you'll want to invest at least a few silver talents in both. As the game progressed I personally found the group style to be the most useful for steel swords (with the strong style being the next most useful), while the fast and strong styles seemed the most useful for silver swords (group style still had its uses, but most enemies it was useful against would die in just a few hits so investing additional talents in it wasn't really worth it). Also, unless you also want to invest heavily in a sign or two (I personally only found Aard to be useful, with Igni only marginally useful at the beginning of the game) you'll end up with plenty of talents to invest in several swords styles so there's not much need to worry about a shortage of talents.

I'm guessing either some of the graphical data got corrupted, or more likely the graphics card/driver combination you're using simply isn't playing nice with the game. I actually had graphical glitches that looked quite similar with NWN2 (uses an engine very similar to what The Witcher uses) that cleared up following a reinstall plus driver update.

that happened only once. game crashed after I tried to leave building.
then crashed once more after four hours or so.
two crashes at 20+ hours gameplay? not bad.

As long as game doesn't crash more than every 3-4 hours, I'm usually OK with it, since most of my gaming sessions doesn't last for much longer than that. Of course, that depends on how immersed into the game I am. Some times I can sit the entire day and play it, while other times I can only sit for 5 minutes before losing interest.
