lukaszthegreat: i always wanted to try x-files game... when it was released it was HUUUUUGEEE... or even bigger. Remember reviewer mentioning it few times in his article.
probably like a game taking 30gb now.
and the game was apparently good (although my memory doesn't work that well these days. too much sandwich.)

I think it came on about 7 discs, like Phantasmagoria. It was pretty cool, but David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson only briefly appeared in it, which was a bit of a letdown. Still, it's one of the better FMV titles out there and definitely worth checking out if you're an X-Files fan or generally into (good) FMV games.

KingofGnG: And don't forget to give The 7th Guest a try, obviously....

And the sequel, The 11th Hour, which unfortunately gets overlooked a lot.

POLE7645: I'm still surprised no one mentioned Realms of the Haunting. Not only the acting was very good, but the cutscenes were well integrated in the gameplay.
I unfortunately haven't played a lot of FMV games. The only two I remember playing was a rail shooter named Novastorm (excellent game, but so-so acting although there wasn't much) and a point-and-click adventure game named Fort Boyard: La Lgende (the acting was OK, the game was good, although being 9 didn't really helped me at the time). I'm not sure it was translated in other languages though.
But my favorite implementation is Myst IV: Revelations. It's like, you don't even notice there's a green screen at all. Even today, I still find it impressing.

I did in one of the other threads.
IMO, it wasn't an FMV game. It just had FMV. Fantastic game, though. A ton of games have FMV but aren't primarily FMV oriented. Kind of like C&C or Rebel Assault 2 or more recently Black. When I consider FMV games as a genre, I think gameplay where video is integrated into the game proper e.g. Tex Murphy, GK2, 7th Guest, 11th Hour, Noctropolis, Black Dahlia, Toonstruck, Nighttrap, Snatcher etc etc.
^It was the anagrams. I loved the game, but the anagrams drove people crazy.

Bron: I still have my 3DO. In fact, I have several. I loved it. Yes, there were lots of crummy games, but there were some real gems as well. One must remember that it was all new. The 3DO was a very ambitious platform, but hard to develop for. And game development was still in its infancy. There were more good games on the 3DO than people think, though many were flawed in some ways. But, that is still true.

Delixe: There certainly were classics on the 3DO, I mentioned a few. The biggest trouble with the system was the price. Both 3DO and Jaguar were far too expensive. If they had launched at a more reasonable price then they may not have died out as quickly as they did. As it stands the Saturn came along and buried them. Once the Playstation was launched it was game over. The last year of the 3DO was plagued with poor FMV titles and the Jaguar flooded with Amiga 1200 ports.

I agree with most of what you say. Too expensive for the market, yes. There were some issues between Matsushita and 3DO that exacerbated this. But too expensive in terms of what you got for your money,,,maybe not. The 3DO had awesome capabilities for its time in terms of audio and video. It's an excellent audio CD player, for example, those were selling for $150-200 and up at the time. Also, it was very well built. All of mine still work after many hours of gaming and listening. I have one hooked up now, as a matter oif fact. (Compare that to Xbox 360's, for example, that seem to last about 6 months on average.)
I believe the 3DO was the first console machine to offer 30fps full screen FMV capabilites and surround sound., could play video CD's (precursor to DVD;s), first 32-bit system (I think), might have been the first to have texture mapping and anti-aliasing and so on. But yea, few could afford it at the time.
my collection includes -
wing commander series, tex murphy series, phantasmagoria series, spycraft, foxhut, c&c, beast within, ripper
don't know what it is about these, but I love them too...
Spycraft was the only FMV game that really worked for me.
SOmeone mentioned C and C as a FMV game. It's not. It has FMV cut scenes, but lots of game used,,and continue to use,,FMV as cut scences.
The term FMV game means a game in which the entire game is played in FMV format. C and C is not a FMV Game, only the cutscenes are.
