bansama: And you'd rather listen to the opinion of someone who may or may not like the same games you do!? Strange...
more often than not, demo's don't give an accurate representation of the game, b/c they only show the cool things. my opinion uhuh.
Also, http://store.steampowered.com/sub/2103/ (jedi knight collection) any good / worth his money?

I bought Broken Sword 2+3, both Indy Games, Loom and The Dig. And that's about it. Most of the other offerings just don't appeal to me.
I'm hoping to get some extra cash to buy more games off GOG, though - the Simon games (except 3D, I already own that) and I dunno what else.

They haven't aged well (even the Quake 3 Engine games seem a bit dull), but there is some fun stuff for the Star Wars nerd.

soulgrindr: So i'm mostly hanging on until the end of the sale before I pick anything up. Unless it's a deal of the day. Then on the last day I'll see what I want.
Fingers crossed it doesn't bite me in the ass and some of the prices go up!

I'm with soulgrindr, I'm doing the same thing here. Again not so great deals on steam for me. I'm a bit pissed on EA, for selling BF2 at this price soon after they sold it for $15. After me and everybody interested got it, they offer it for $7.50. bleh
bansama: With reports of over 2 million units shipped worldwide, I'm not surprised the price doesn't drop lower then 33% or so. Gearbox/2K know it will sell perfectly fine without a larger reduction.
This for Borlerlands. And the same for (the stupid ones that still buy full price) MW2 for $60, L4D2 for $50-60 and other games. If people keep paying high for it, of course they won't lower the price then.

Just curious, may I ask you why you bought broken sword over steam? I've checked now and they are available on GOG for $0.60 cents more, without any DRM or needing for internet connection.

melchiz: They haven't aged well (even the Quake 3 Engine games seem a bit dull), but there is some fun stuff for the Star Wars nerd. I don't like much star wars, but overall they are good FPS games. Yes, the graphics haven't aged well, but still good games, in my opinion the best SP ones are dark forces 2 and it's expansion, they feel a bit epic and use FMV cutscenes between levels. The lightsaber fighting is better only on the last two games, academy has even better combat than outcast, and IIRC academy still got an alive MP.
But, both jedi engine games are the most problematic on this steam package. Buy them at your own risk, or keep demanding a fix for those games from steam/lucas arts and the inclusion of soundtracks. (the music adds a good immersion on the older games).

I've seen Borderlands for less than £15 for the retail boxed version. Obviously not in shops. Fucking fleecing bastards. It's like they're trying to make MW2 look cheap by comparison.

Snagged King's bounty: AP and Red Faction today, just couldn't pass them up at that price.
King's bounty is an excellent game, especially if you are a fan of Heroes of Might and Magic (though the first king's bounty was even before that).

Steam is murdering the competition with these prices. D2D has some notable deals, but thus far, Steam is dominating the holiday sales.
Question: Do you guys believe that Steam is selling some games this year at a loss, in order to hook more users to its service? The long-term payoff could justify it.

It could be a kind of gamble. Hoping they sell a ton of the game really cheap making more money than it did at the normal price with less sales.

Well, this is obviously a case of reduced profit margins and increased volume. However, they may even be selling certain titles at a slight loss (or no net gain) in order to draw in more users. That is common tactic for a service or entertainment-related industry.

Because I didn't know GOG -had- the Broken Sword games when I bought them. :( I got kinda carried away. I tend to pick up boxed games afterwards, even if I own a digital release, so it's not that much of a problem. If the games go on sale again on GOG, then I'll probably re-buy them here anyway. :p
And I don't mind Steam's DRM. My computer is always hooked up to the internet anyway! (I do prefer DRM-free games, of course!)
