Space colonization for less than a fast-food lunch? With the release of Haegemonia Gold Edition on GOG.com, it's now possible!
Haegemonia Gold Edition consists of Legions of Iron (the main game) and the expansion: Solon Heritage. It is a space-based real-time strategy, borrowing the best qualities of its competitors and predecessors. The story takes place in the far future, in which mankind has managed to colonize its solar system. The situation between the inhabitants of Earth and Mars are tense at best and the Martian envoy to a planned summit was shot down by an unknown faction. Both sides accused the other, resulting in a civil war. Here is where you come in. Pick a side - be it Earth or Mars - and forge a better future for your people.
Intriguing. Might be something I'll get, though for now I think I might have enough games.
Uh oh, only one game left in the GOG coming soon list!
You know what that means... NEW PUBLISHERS!
Looks very interesting indeed. It got plenty of good reviews back in the day, but I never got around to it. Added to cart for now, will buy later.

...or non-announced games from current partners ;-).
(As for Haegemonia, I have it on CD-ROM, but I may pick it up here anyway some time in the future.)
I love this game. First off I tried the demo, struggled with what I was meant to do and gave up in frustration. A month of two later, I saw it in a gameshop, thought it looked interesting and forgetting my previous experience with it picked it up for about $20. Very happy I did.
Epic space battles ensured, large fleets and explosions. Huge research-based tech trees, planetary genocide and colonisation, rather nice looking graphics and engine. Voicework that while not professional, sounded rather decent and did *not* make me want to throttle someone.
If you like a slightly more complex RTS, or space games, grab it and give it a go.
Quick downsides?
1) The Solon Heritage expansion is MP only, no extra SP campaign.
2) Map changes do not carry through. If you max every planet out to Gaia status, they may not be like that on the next mission. unless this was fixed/changed, but that would overpower things quick.
3) Earth Vs, Mars is pretty much the same after the first act.
Meh, I don't like RTSs.... I want some more rpgs!

I...I just don't get it... does steam (or more precisely it's customers) really feel threatened enough by GOG to leave juvinile comments on the message boards? I mean the level of insult here just leaves me stunned, to the point where, not only can I think of no response to this insult, I don't think I will ever be able to buy a game from GOG again! I mean, i just got told it sucks!

Technically speaking you are mistaken. GOG.com is a part of CDProjekt group and NOT Valve Corporation.
(I was advised not to speak un-technically)

Because it's not a registered user, thus "Anonymous" and the question mark.

That would be insulting to the nematode, in my opinion.
As for the game: On my to buy list. I have a thing for space games.
Don't stop talking about Haegemonia because of random encounter: Troll!
I've played it back in the dark ages, when I didn't even buy original games (dark ages ineed - yes, they're not SO far back in my history :D ). Considering how much time I've put into pirated version of this game, the least I can do is buy it from GoG.
oooooh if only it was 5.99, thats almost the exact amount I have in the bank and I'd so spend it on this. Oh well, suppose it'll have to wait till payday.
Ugh, I hate that W word! Waiting sucks...

Ooh I've just thought, if its a troll it might not be properly dead, anyone got some fire or acid? I've got some habanero chillies preserved in vinegar thats now the colour of dark apple juice, reckon that could kill a troll?
