So, how many people here will be chomping at the bit to get their hands on The Secret Of Monkey Island Special Edition?
Personally, I can't wait to play this game again. I cannot put into words how happy I was when I heard the announcement of the new Tales of Monkey Island game. I'm excited to see where this franchise will be taken.
Does anyone know if any of the original games will run on VIsta?
I hope that there is some chance that GOG can get Lucasarts to release the rest of the Monkey Island series or Grim Fandango. I know, I know...stop dreaming.

The first three will run without any problem on Vista/Seven using ScummVM, for the fourth IIRC one there are some patch that make it work on XP but I don't know about Vista.
4 works in vista using the quick and easy installer/launcher. i just played through it about a week before the announcement of the new game and the reissue of secret. one of the topics of conversation that weekend was how it would be easy for a company like lucasarts to revisit the art and sounds for those old games and pretty much keep them on the store shelves for new players to pick up. :)
I think I will get the tales of monkey Island series assuming they haven't butchered it. They did sam and max well enough so I've got high hopes for it. I bought the monkey island bounty pack a while back and after comparing the screens of the new vs the old, I actually perfere the old graphics to the newer ones.

I absolutely cannot wait, I have never played them before and having heard so many great things about the series for years I had been hoping for a re-release. Now we get a full blown remake packaged with it as well, thank you Lucasarts, better late than never.
I like the way in which the remake has paid a good homage to the game, almost like if the technology was present at inception, this is how it would be made originally.
I hope the hot-switching will be be an option, I really like the idea that at any point you can check the original game. Perhaps it will make more people interested in the history of video games, and older titles. Who knows.
That said, I don't think its a purchase for me, however much I love Monkey Island. This is because, I have played it to death, even the voiced PC CD version of it. Perhaps if it ends up in a bargain bucket at some point, I'll show it to my future kids and I would insist that they play it.

Well, to be honest, even if I'm interested in Tales of Monkey Island, for now I'm disappointed by the graphics... The design itself is pretty good, but the 3D... I hate the lighting, it feels like a cheap 3D from a several years-old game... I only hope that the story will be good.
I think I'll just wait the release of the entire "season", never been interested in game episodes concept.

According to the developer video that I have seen you can switch between the classic version and the newer one at any point.
I also like the idea of the hint feature. Having it accessible as you play if/when you need to bring it up. Just like having the strategy guide only without all of the paper.

There was never a voiced CD version. The CD version had minor changes to the interface, and had real music tracks on the disc, rather than the MIDI music of the floppy versions, but that was it. There has never been speech on The Secret Of Monkey Island.
Personally, I'm worried about the console aspect of it. Remaking the interface for consoles? And sticking the PC players with the same interface? Well, it might work, but I'm not getting my hopes up until I actually try it.

I'm more excited by the ability to switch between classic and remade graphics on the fly. When I first boot it up, I think I'll switch between the two very quickly and very often.

I guess my memory is getting mixed up with something else! Nevermind!

It is a bit of a weird style but it could of been worse. As long as the games story, dialog and puzzle solving hold up to the older monkey islands I can let the graphics slide.
I have never taken to episodes either, bought the entire sam and max season at the end and played it in one go. My memory isn't good enough to remember what happened with month long intervals anyway. Which would of spoiled some of the jokes in that game.
Already playing the original on DOSBox....
