Tarm: *Cough* Skyrim *Cough*

Luisfius: Which only tend to break modifications, and if major unplayable things are found, they are also eventually patched. It is considerably more convenient than manual patching, then again, if one preferred a previous iteration, one is shit out of luck.
See: Dredmor. Game still crashes on me every time I finish a "kill this monster squad" quest. Of course, it is optional but 3 iterations ago, that did not happen! Also, preferred the old crafting system since it allowed one to use the craft tools as extra containers, but eh, whatever.
I used Skyrim as a example of when autopatching can create a lot of rage. Several of the patches made many stop playing until a new patch came out that fixed the previous patch.
So many want to chose if they want a patch or not. Ergo autopatch isn't that great all the time.
When was actually the last time any of us has used Fileplanet? I think for me it was probably 7 years ago. And even back than I used it maybe a couple of times a year.

I don't know if I'm an exeption, but I don't tink IGN would shut it down if it were to see a lot of traffic.

Foxhack: Within reason, yes.

There's a lot of stuff that isn't available anywhere else.
Your idea of responsibility and mine differ greatly.

About a month ago for me. There are a lot of mods for older games that I either can't find anywhere else or I have to go to several other sites to find them all. So I am a little upset by this. I wonder if IGN would, since they seem to be just abandoning the site anyway, consider selling it to another company. One that could improve the user interface and the account managing.

I have no idea. Probably when I registered to get something that was FilePlanet only which was years ago.

StingingVelvet: Do you really think it is their responsibility to host patches and shit forever? Really?

Foxhack: Within reason, yes.

And how is that their concern? Seriously, the people who uploaded it could upload it elsewhere, but Fileplanet has to keep operating and costing money because...why exactly?
I haven't used FilePlanet for anything, for some considerable time. There were better and faster alternatives for getting patches, and that was my main reason for using FP at all back in the day.
I wonder how long it will take until they also shut down the Neverwinter Nights Vault with 10 years worth of user created content ... :(

Foxhack: Here's hoping someone... saves everything.
Hi there! http://archiveteam.org/index.php?title=Fileplanet

My goal is to provide a ftp-like structure to all the files in the end with the downloads being served by archive.org . The Fileplanet downloads are served from a very nice directory structure so this should not be too hard.

But help with the downloading is needed, at least once we get to the newer (bigger on average) files.

Leroux: NNV looks fairly easy to mirror! Not something I am personally interested in at the moment. But if they would announce impeding death, it would be a trivial job unless they throttle/interfere.

Ha, yes, I was hoping you guys would get to that. Awesome.
Oh no, all those Morrowind mods! I hope they're all on TES nexus.

EDIT: Oh wait, I confused that with PlanetElderscrolls that Gamespy maintains, no worries then for me. :P I think the good thing is that at least many things will get saved and back-uped by others, right? Stuff like patches and mods.

Gamespy == IGN. Be afraid. ;)
Go Archive Team! These guys are beyond awesome.
Around 2.5 Terabyte so far. ~17000 files to go from the easy part. Unknown how many we won't get because some files are only available if you know their direct link. :(

Anyways, the end is in sight!
