Back when Goldeneye 007 64 was out, I really sucked ass at FPS. Seriously hard core sucked. So I would practice just shooting targets, but what I would do for the most fun, is try to commit suicide in the most elaborate way possible. Most of the time this included use of the 'nade launcher.
So when my friends would come over, we'd play "who can suicide in the most elaborate way?" we didn't really keep score or anything like that, it was more of "oh hey!"
But these days you don't see too many people making games like that on top of games. I'd like to see this done more often.
So, if you would please, share your house rules for multiplayer gaming :D
Well, this is mostly why Forge on Halo 3 was invented. To create on-the-fly game modes to have fun in.
I like to eschew guns and use the last-resort hand-to-hand weapon. I'm quite infamous by now - in Quake 3 I can often get 30 humiliations by the time the first person gets to 99 frags.

I often do that in Quake Live.
In a few recent games of TF2, instead of playing Arena matches, we make towers by jumping on each others heads.
This would become more elaborate the higher you get, such as building a sentry, letting it run out of ammo if required, jumping on top of it then causing it to explode, while being healed by a medic. Your character is launched, and has to land on top of everybody else.
In Super Smash Bros Melee we usually play only with mines or only with pokeballs (lot of fun).
A mate and I used to have day long sessions of Busihido Blade (500+ rounds), a few hours in we stopped playing sensibly and started playing chasies. The last person killed was suddenly declared IT and we'd then spend hours just running around the maps trying to tag each other.
Medal of Honor: Allied Assault
We usually agree on a weapon class, and everyone uses just that weapon. We have on rare occasion, picked grenades or pistols (alt fire only!) as the weapon of choice. Either of which makes deathmatch a bit more interesting.
Back in the heady days of 56k dial-up fragging at speed while playing Unreal Tournament was simply not going to happen. We used a whole host of mods and by accident we invented Rocket Joust.
Using the Dr. Strangelove mod, the player could ride a Redeemer rocket. You could do things like increase its fuel amount, speed or if the warhead was active. We soon realised that deactivating it and flying full speed at each other meant if the other person got hit, they would die from impact damage alone. We downloaded the longest map we could find, it was something like "Alien Hall" and would play this for hours. The skill involved was getting your rocket above the opponent, so you would clip their head with the Redeemer's tip.
Weclock's suicide stunts reminded me of something else too. While playing Vice City we used to find the most hilarious ways of murdering whores. Two of the most amusing ones we came up with was to either land a helicopter on them (which they wouldn't die, but just lay still underneath its skids) and perform all manner actions to finish the job. The other one was to get a whole bunch of them in a car speed towards a cliff and jump out, sending the car plumeting.
Ah good times.
In the RE5 demo, me and my bro play knifean and meleean gaems. Does that count?

yes, yes it does.
Me and my brother used to play Worms using no long range weapons, or sometimes only grenades. Much fun.
And although its not multiplayer, we used to see who could make the best lemmings explosion. (those of you who have played the old lemmings games may recall this).

The Strangelove mutator can be used for all sorts of fun stuff. My community uses it sometimes in UT2004. It's always good for a laugh.
And yes, I too have experimented with all sorts of creative ways of killing/destroying/blowing up people, vehicles and property in GTA:VC.

I've seen screenshots of people doing this in Wolfenstein Enemy Territory.
They got real high, 20 people or more.
Mods and game modes have really done a lot of the hard work for us. RotT had great collector and tag modes, I vaguely recall a rocket jump contest mod for Q2 (I think it was an OSP production, but the name escapes me), and the mutators and mods for HL2 and UT go beyond whatever house rules could do.
I think my fondest memories of house rules were from BF1942. I fondly remember matches consisting entirely of jeeps with explosives, kamikaze pilots and/or riding on the outside of vehicles.
