I actually did use them for about 2 years when I was a bachelor and enjoyed them then. However, these days married with children I don't have a enclosed office or other space for my PC, just sits in my living room beside my wife's system and due to being in the center of things, haven't even taken the speakers out of the box for about 7 years. I'm assuming they even still work at this point; but, just don't see myself having a place to game where I can have that much sound, plus headphones have come a long way in the last decade and since I often use voice chat for online games at least they are better for me.

(I could also say I'm in the same boat as many people here it seems in that I have a huge backlog of games I've bought that I've yet to play so in that sense they are going to waste, but I'll get to them eventually right! ;-))

Great idea for the giveaway, thanks! Money I've spent that ended up going to waste - I've got two entries:

1. $5000 for a 1997 Hyundai Tiburon. I loved the car and it ran fine. Why a waste? Six months after I bought it, I totaled it.

2. $400 for a JAMMA sit-down arcade cabinet. $200 for the machine and $200 for freight. Initially I used it quite a bit but then I went overseas for a couple years and now I don't have the space in my apartment. So it collects dust in my parent's basement. My parents ask me if I will ever sell it about every 6 months. I refuse to sell it though in hopes that one day I will have the space to use it again.

BUMPs of money

Had the same thing, my parents always asking me to sell the cabinet. Now i actually want to get rid of it and built a mini jamma cabinet with a Xbox in it, but i can't get it to sell.

I had thousands of dollars of scuba diving gear, then met my wife (to be) who has a breathing disorder, sold it all back to a shop that made out like a bandit. Still married, and only dove one other time (rented gear) in the last 27 years. no regrets! :o)

The most expensive thing I've bought that has gone to waste has been my $500 Ray-Ban prescription glasses. I went with my mom and she picked them up. But they are were too small and I didn't like them so even when I payed around $500 I've never used them. I used my old glasses frame and made other ones.

I still keep them in case I broke mines and need ones for spare in an emergency but really, I've never used them and I'll probably never will.

Hello again, this is now closed.

First - Two of my own largest outlays have been buying an XBox 360 /PC controller to play games. I personally found it really uncomfortable to use so I just gave it away to a friend when he recently bought himself a PC to play games. It made sense as he had already owned a 360, until it died so he felt comfortable using the stupid controller.
- I also own a £399 robot vacuum. Although I did not buy it, no matter how many times I told my partners mother we really did not need one she still insisted on buying it and it now just sits in a cupboard until I get up the nerve to 'insult' my partner by either selling or just giving the damn thing away.

Second - A guy I work with told me after I told him the story, that when he allowed his new partner to move in a year ago, his partner had also brought his entire collection of (some band I cannot remember) gig posters, t-shits, CD's, DVD's, vinyl records and other assorted things. Although he is fine with it all, he complained that he has now lost what was planned to be a spare room for guests to his partners obsession with this band, and the money spent watching this band is just money wasted in his eyes.

Although I believe everyone who owns glasses should own at least 3 pairs, $100 each would be excessive in my eyes. So you should now find a code in your PM.

Umm... given your choices I will say that actually 1 is more wasteful as you did use the arcade machine for enjoyment. Yet totaling a car in six months is a complete waste, I hope your driving has improved. You should now find a code in your PM.
