Its totally legal, the source code for the MC games was even publicly released almost 3 years ago.

Battlecruiser 3000AD and Battlecruiser Millenium are also free. But I'm not sure many would want to play them. There is also another one on that site called Universal Combat but I have no idea what it's worth.

I knew that MechCommander was his sourcecode released for free, but I didn't found anything about his distribution license and compilation, including if its possible to recompilate entire game just using this source code.

Another great game is FreeOrion. It's an open source recreation of Masters of Orion, and it is quite excellent.

Why did you put this in the Steam category, rather than in the Racing category? Yes, you can get it through Steam, but you can just as well get it directly from the game's own homepage (http://trackmania.com), and not have to bother with Steam at all.
