Randalator: "In the second quarter CDP.pl significantly strengthened its service by purchasing the digital distribution of games from Electronic Arts , which is one of the leaders in the global market for digital entertainment. This allows the platform cdp.pl hit titles such hit series as " The Sims ", " FIFA ", " Battlefield " and " Mass Effect " . Another distribution agreement concluded in June with Swedish developer Paradox Interactive , known mainly from a strategic series of " Europa Universalis " ."

Wait, WHAT? Holy crap! Is Google Translate hallucinating or did they really get what I think it says they got?
CDP.pl is CD Projekt's Polish digital store, that sells Steam keys, comic books, movies, etc. for the Polish market. It's a completely different thing from GOG.

SCPM: They published some new figures here a few days ago:

It appears GOG's profits are up 105% compared to the same period last year, if I understand the machine translation correctly.

Licurg: Can someone who speaks polish tell us what this says ? I don't trust these online translators .
It compares GOG's profit from the first half of 2013 and 2012. It says that:
- Profit in this year is almost twice as much as in 2012 and amounts to 30,77 millions PLN
- Net profit is 105% times higher (in a sense - a bit more than twice as much) and amounts to 6,35 millions PLN

EDIT: I just had to check if I understood a term year-on-year correctly. (economy is not my thing) I did so I can confirm that what I wrote above is valid.

That's a lower profit than I would've thought ...

I'm not really surprised because I can compare it to my own field of expertise. I just looked up how much is a standard conference fee. I found one bill from the conference I attended, it was in 2009 and the fee was 600 €. And of course it doesn't cover the traveling expenses, hotels etc. I usually take part in five conferences a year so it's 3000 €. There were ~50 scientist in this institute so 150000 € a year is a good estimation. And it's just for conference fees, nothing else! If the conference is on the other side of the globe you can easily pay 2000 € for your travel. If we assume that only 1/5 of all conferences are located far away (which was definitely NOT true, there were more) we end up with 100000 €. I think you already get my picture, don't you? And I believe it's the same with video games...

So... they made a ton of money, and spent it on conferences ? Or, what ? :/ Not sure where you're getting at.

Gotta spend money to make money ;) They are not going there only for fun. At least in my field (physics) conferences are the best places to make new contacts, start arranging new contracts and so on. Most of the customers that I personally attracted come from conferences. And I do believe it's the same with GOG. They just have to show up on every big event just to promote themselves. They cannot bring games here without any effort... Sure, there are some devs (indie mostly) that ask them for releasing their games but in most cases GOG has to ask first. But if you want to have a positive outcome your brand has to be recognizable and taking part in conferences is a must to achieve it.
This is why video conferences have risen highly in the last few years I think, cutting down traveling and hotel expenses which honestly I think is great.
