Bodyless: they deactivated the auto search for patches at the start up in the latest update. you should try again.

That was really odd as it conflicts with this:
Gamers shall have the right to demand that a single-player game not force them to be connected to the Internet every time they wish to play.

While they could just wait the 30-60 seconds for each stage of launching the game, it's pretty lame to include that check there. Instead, that's what Impulse is for (patch management).
I'm glad to hear that someone reminded them of that.

bansama: Well looking at the Impulse forums and at the problems that a lot of people seem to have with getting the game to run: Apparently won't run with Comodo and Defense + running, doesn't like some Logitech drivers, may have to spam click a shortcut to get it to run and so forth... I really need to see a demo for this now, as without one, I won't be buying this at it's current price tag.
Perhaps in a few months/years if it ever drops significantly in price or they fix the issues without the need to permanently disable parts of Comodo I might give it another look.

Unfortunately since there is no single-player campaign and limited single-player options otherwise, it might not be worth it to buy this game once it's off its peak of popularity. Right now it really depends on multiplayer.
Well you were not forced to connect to the internet. i just thought that this may cause the crash with comodo.
anyway, there are a few work around suggestion on the demigod forums:

Don't you, by any chance, want to actually talk about Demigod in here? I know, this is official DRM haters forum and when a DRM question comes up, we all have to jump on it like flies, no matter WHERE it's posted, therefore degrading 50% of threads on this forum, however I'd really like to actually KNOW something about the GAME, even thou the idea of me not constantly bashing DRM is really ridiculous and all
I know, it's naive of me to think you could actually move your discussion of Impulse to topic named... Dunno... Stardock Impulse, because talking about Impulse DRM in actual topic that's NAMED after it is really stupid and doesn't bring enough anti-DRMness to this forums... You know, I have an idea: Let's talk about Demigod into Stardock's Impulse topic, it would be way less confusing that way!

Fair enough. :)
Demigod is a brilliant game, i never played such a FUN game in mp. It's not so hardcore like DOTA, where you had to know (aka memorize) every item and every hero (out of dozens). But it's not like it's for casuals players. It's a little bit for every one, and this a rare thing among recent games, they usualy fell in one extreme of the two.
What i really like and what's sets this game apart from DOTA, it's the citadel upgrades, that can turn the side of a battle to your avantage, if, for example, the opposing team has some tougher demigods. The flags also have a big importance, as they give bonuses to the controlling team. It's all about map control and pushing. Imo, it's DOTA to the next level. So it's not a DOTA clone, it's better than DOTA.
I cannot wait for new demigods and maybe new maps. I really hope this game will sell well, so it's get supported in the future, with DLCs and expansions.

Well finally someone actually recognises what I'm trying to point out about mess 'round here, thank you.
Well, to the topic: Game really DOES look interesting from what I've seen, but do you think a person who actually hates DOTA would enjoy it?
What I hate about DOTA was ... well... I don't usually mind it, but it felt kinda repetitive. Go there with hero, kill what you can / enemy hero, return and heal, go do the exactly same thing again until you manage to breach defences of enemy's base. Yay, we've won, repeat.
There are more small annoyances that were always putting me off DOTA, but I guess this one was always the biggest

Jeez, telling people what they can and can't do? You're as bad as DRM!
Flippancy aside, is there actually single player in this or not? I've read conflicting reports on this. If its multiplayer only (and thats including 1 player multiplayer with bots thats often fobbed off as single player) then I'm not interested, just not my thing. If its got single player I may well use that impulse account I made ages ago and immediately forgot about...
No. It has some sort of skirmish, with bots.
I can't say i hate DOTA, but i can say i don't like it. I like the concept, but don't like the actual game. Demigod on the other hand, it's great.
But i don't think DOTA was repetitive. It had other flaws, imo...
okay, just went to check out the DOTA site because I have never played it
clicked on media to see some gameplay and immediately had my ears raped by that super emo 'crawling in my skin' song that linkin park sings
got the f*** out of there as fast as possible
sigh. screamo and weird anime with tentacles and stuff--two things I will never understand that a lot of gamers are into
LOL. Well, if you never played DOTA, just try Demigod or at least see these gameplay movies:

Oh, and see this video review, it pretty sums out the game:

ps: a demo it's on it's way, according to the devs.
