I wonder: is it common for people with dialup to have two phone lines nowadays?
As a kid my family only had one phone line, so if anyone was on the internet you couldn't use the phone, and vice versa. It would be ridiculous to have to terminate your single-player game so that someone can make a phone call (and to have to block all incoming calls until you're done).

I had dial-up at my home until five years ago. I did look at the possibility of having a second phone line. The cost of a second line plus a dial-up provider was a little more expensive than 1.5 gig DSL. So I went with that instead. I really doubt many people have that kind of a set up nowadays.
I now have ATT Uverse @ 6 gig. Not the fastest, but good speed for the price and I don't get many problems at all.

HertogJan: Building bases on the water was indeed a plus of that game and it's biggest too.
The humour was seriously less than that in it's predecessors.
The acting was worse too, with a clear emphasis on the female body.
Too bad as all 3 sides had great actors portraiting the leaders.

darthcobley: wasn't that the point that the acting was supposed to be terrible?

No no no, the acting was supposed to be CAMP, not terrible. And certainly not replaceable by chicks in stupidly short miniskirts. I mean I like attractive women in skimpy outfits as much as the next guy, possibly moreso, but at least in RA1 & 2 it was slightly more realistic, thewomen were dressed in slightly sexed up variants of military uniforms rather than things closer to a saucy nurse outfit you'd get from a sex shop
This is EXACTLy the reason why I haven't bought Rise of Flight (recent WWI Flight sim that came out a few weeks ago).
Having a net connection required to play the single player portion of a video game is just something I will not support, even if I do have a net connection most of the time, sometimes it drops or othoer events happen where you don't have access to it for whatever reason.
I bought C&C 3 and really disliked it (interface, felt too zoomed in, poor gameplay). I felt it was a sad end to an otherwise brilliant series.
I then bought Red Alert 3 (I'm a mug), and was again disappointed. They'd corrected much that I disliked about C&C3, but it was generally quite mediocre and just made me want to play the original.
I would have considered buying C&C4, but I was really in a 50/50 situation about whether I would bother. This has tipped the scales against.
I hope they lose money on this to show them this sort of DRM crap is just not right.
I think I'll just reiterate what people said about how RA2 was the finest in CnC gameplay. I mean, what other game had you fighting the traitor Yuri on the moon as the good ol' Soviets? None!
Red Alert 3 was okay but forgettable except for what they did to the Soviet units. Tesla troopers, Apocalypse tanks and even the conscript were ruined. Also, there was a lack of very bad timing too like having a mission to destroy the Pentagon before the WTC attack.
Personally, I don't care about the constant net connection, if each game comes with one of these.
Edit: After careful deliberation, I'll take the one on the left.

You see this is the problem with the game, they're distracting you with a pair of tits in a fetish outfit and hoping you won't notice the shitty game they just sold you

No pair of titties would ever make me buy a crap game.

darthcobley: i'll rephrase it could be worse it could be securom

SecuROM is not the worst thing in the world, despite what the Internet may lead you to believe. It's annoying if only on principle, can cause problems if not implemented wisely and should be transparent, BUT I would take it any day over this...basically the most retarded form of DRM yet.

Mentalepsy: What a joke.
I wonder how this would play for people on dialup. If it's constantly updating your progress online, it sounds like you'd get poor performance out of the game.
Or, hey, people who are sharing an internet connection. You're playing Command & Conquer, and your roommate starts up a download. All of a sudden, your single-player game slows to a crawl.

The original forum post from the C&C guy says everything will be fine on dialup connections.

I think Tages is even worse than SecuRom; basically, it's the same, sans the possibility of revoking the activations. However, SecuRom is only a bit less bad (sorry, couldn't get myself to say "better").
And I agree, this beats them all in regards of retardedness.

That is bad!
Indeed, SecuROM CAN be terrible, but there are a lot of options for the publisher...Capcom is one company that seems to know how to implement it properly and reasonably...picked up DMC4 and Lost Planet recently and haven't had one issue.
Reclaim Your Game is doing an interview with SecuROM people soon..I'm hoping they hint at eliminating the less terrible options they provide to publishers..that would be very nice.

The acting RA and RA2 was over the top but funny and never annoying.
The acting in RA3 was just plain bad.
I was hoping on some nice movies as they had some good actors (J.K. Simmons is 1 of my favorites actors since I saw him in OZ).
