Yeah, I always kinda found that to be rather ridiculous, though I suppose I'm guilty of it myself, in a way. I just have this hangup about the X-Box. As in, I doubt I'll ever buy one. A large part of what's pissed me off about that particular platform, though, is the whole idea of platform-exclusive content. Like how X-Box users get the GTA4 expansion and nobody else does. Well, gee, thanks a lot for that.
Or how owners of the PS3 version of Fallout 3 don't get access to the expansions, either. That's just garbage. That sort of thing doesn't make me want to buy an X-Box, it just kinda makes me hate the platform even more.
Though it still bugs me when people get into console wars and seriously start screaming at each other over which system is superior. And then enter the extremely hardcore PC gamers who call the others idiots and essentially call the whole lot of console gamers utter morons for being stupid enough to pick up a controller in the first place. The whole thing borders on the ludicrous.

but that type of thing is hardly new as far as consoles go, best graphics for the original ghost busters game was for the sega master system, the sega genesis version of ghost busters was a platformer while the nes only got the stupid one, etc..
So any way, that's something anybody who plays on console is just going to have to get over.
Personally I won't buy a PS3 due to price, and not really wanting a bluray player. I think Digital Distribution is the way to go, I always have, and I'm positive the majority of PC gamers will agree on that front.

We'll be seeing much more of that from now on. Seems like the market nowadays skews much more towards DLC (exclusives) rather than outright game exclusives. Sony is also picking up on that trend though. Just recently heard that the new Batman Arkham Asylum will feature exclusive PS3 only chapters where you play as Joker.
But yeah I find it regrettable that PS3 owners cant play through Lost and Damned. Personally I liked the premise in it much more than vanilla GTA4. Funny fact. Heard that Microsoft paid over 50 million for exclusive rights on GTA4 DLC. Which is LAD and another yet unannounced chapter.

I know how you feel about the X-Box. I'm not a Sony fanboy, and I don't have a problem with the console itself, but more with Microsoft. Actually, I don't own a PS3 (yet), but I was really really angry to see that Fallout 3, GTA IV and Tomb Raider Underworld would have expansions... only on X-Box, while the main games were released on both platforms...
At the time of the 1st X-Box, I was really mad to see PS2 "exclusive titles" to be released less than a year later on the X-Box with additional content.... while most of the X-Box exclusives have never been seen on the PS2...
That said, I've always been a P(ersonal)C(omputer) gamer. When I was a kid, I played a lot on the C-64, and even more on the Amiga (wonderful system!).
When the Amiga died, I've used Macs, so, not many computer games at that time. Instead, I've played on a Playstation (my first console), PS2, and some Mac games.
And now that I have an Intel iMac, I can finally play Windows games without having to buy a PC just for that.
So, now it's really depending of the type of game I want to play, or the way I want to play (on my little chair in front of the computer, or on the sofa in front of the TV).

I'm not one of those. People can play whatever they want and I am cool. I suppose I was misleading. I like games. I prefer PC games. End.

yes, but did you rip the games yourself? downloading roms is promoting the share of them, if enough people download a rom, the more likely the rom is going to be there for piracy.

I'm just the opposite, for the longest time I focused pretty heavily on PC games, while I always had a console to dabble with, the real meaty games were on the PC. However, recently I've been turned off to PC gaming because my time has become more valuable to me as I've grown older and have more responsibilities etc. I no longer enjoy tweaking a PC and getting patch files and obscure fixes just to get a game working correctly, not to mention paying the kind of money required to keep a computer up to date enough to play the shiny new games.
I am throughly impressed with both the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 because most of the PC games I care about are on those consoles and they just plain work and look good on an HD television.
Granted, I still play PC games, I just think my focus has shifted from PC to console just for ease of use and relaxation. Nowadays, I just don't have enough time to play all the games I'd like, so I've become very selecive and very picky about things not working :)
Regardless, the best games will always be somewhere on the PC I think, but we will see.

Platform exclusives are always annoying, especially if they're done for financial reasons. In the case of PS2 exclusives that appeared on xbox after a year, they did their job by encouraging everyone to buy the console and the game because there was no other option (at least for that year). The fact they were later ported to another platform was a good business decision, if they had content added then it was a good idea since it might have tempted owners of the original release to re-buy. The fact that many xbox exclusives weren't ported just deprives the developers of money and is pretty damned silly.
Platform exclusives made because of a developer wanting to focus on one system that they think will be the best one for their creation is awesome, gives them all the development resources they need to make the best game possible.

The Xbox was a bit more powerful than the PS2; some games that the Xbox struggled with (like Morrowind) wouldn't have run at all on the PS2, so it wasn't necessarily exclusivity for its own sake. Additionally, its PC-friendly development tools meant it was much quicker and cheaper to port a game to or from Windows than to or from the PS2 (a trend which continues with the 360) so many companies skipped the PS2 to save on development costs.

If I had infinite amount of time, I would play on everything, PC and consoles and handhelds.
But sadly I do not have infinite amount of time, so I chose the best platform of all and play on that - PC.

I am pretty much on your page -- though, I don't play console games b/c I don't feel like owning more hardware that I don't feel really are worth the money -- X360, PS3, and Wii, namely.
Especially since most of the games I want are multi-platformed on the PC AND CONSOLES.
Last console I bought was the original PlayStation.
I know, there's a bunch of games on the X-Box and X360 I missed that probably will never be on the PC or aren't on the PC yet -- Halo 3, Fable 2, Ninja Gaiden series.
Same goes for the Playstation 2 and 3 systems -- such as God of War series, Mega Man series, and Uncharted series.

Agree with that. I remember Rogue Leader on the Gamecube, the game was technically awesome, and would not has been so good if planned to be on multiple paltforms. For this game, Factor 5 has used the maximum possibilities on the GC.
I think it's pretty much the same for Gran Turismo series, games made and optimized for a particular platform.
Except those cases, platform exclusive games really annoy me too. But it's all the matter of business, so I guess players don't have their word to say in it... sad...
Uh... who are you? Some sort of piracy police?... Sorry, but even if I can understand that most of the emulation roms are technically illegal, it's a good way to just be able to play games that are not sold anymore.
What do you want him to do? Stay and watch his cartridge, thinking "oh, too bad, I've bough this game years ago, I want to play it again, but I can't rip it myself"...
I don't support piracy either, but there are limits, man...

Weclock believe me when I say that I understand where you are coming from but the simple fact of the matter is, these games have long ago outlived their economic lifespan. Even if these games were found in a used bookstore, the original creators would still never see a dime. Anyway its not like I'm putting these games on the torrent trackers and seeding them myself, they are simply for my own personal nostalgia.
If you have such a moral objection to it then all I can say is I'm sorry and I hope you get over it very soon :P

I've seen people disabled for rom sharing.
Regardless of how easy it is, if you want to get rid of stupid DRM, the best way is to not buy the games that have it, and don't pirate them.
If you don't want to be a pirate, don't allow others to be pirates too. I don't care if you bought a game one time, and sold it, or if you broke it/lost it, it doesn't mean you have the right to the pirate it.
EDIT:
when I was 14-16 I used to look at porn of girls my same age, it wasn't until later that I realised that just because it was morally ok for me to look at it, there were adults who were exploiting these children, and by downloading/viewing the pornography, I was aiding these adults in furthering to exploit children.
Just because it's morally ok for you to have a copy, doesn't mean you aren't supporting piracy, the future piracy of more goods, and the continuation of the content you're downloading to be pirated.
