Anything displaying stuff about a banned game in Australia won't be visible to the user. Not the entire site, just the parts displaying information about these games.
This is outrageous and hopefully it doesn't go through.
i gues its not a coincidence that this comes at a time when australians have access to previously censored or banned games here on gog. would it actually be illegal in australia to download the uncut version of phantasmagoria here? or some other banned game? or gog to sell it to an australian?
This socialism malarkey that spreads around the world is going to turn against us. I thought we had it bad in Europe but Australia beats it all.
It'll never pass, too many ways to challenge it even if they DID manage to get enough effort to try to do it. The only upside about this increasingly dictatorial government is just how fucking useless they are.
Not the the other side would have been any better, this lot were a shit choice but when the choice is between shit or FUCKING shit...
Giant Douche vs Turd Sandwich basically
Slowly but surely Australia is reverting back into a prison camp. I'd never have imagined that Australia would be so riddled with crazy fundies. Never mind that they'd be allowed to occupy positions of power.

TheCheese33: Australia's Internet may be Censored

Wait - I thought the internet was already censored in Australia?
Mmm, morals.
Next up, Australian news agencies report: ISP's around the country have had NO reports of questionable content, therefore we have come to the conclusion that our internet users never visit sites with questionable content.
...seeing how this filter allegedly relies on user reports
Axiom #1: Video games are for kids. Adults don't play video games.
Corollary #1: Video games with an "adults only" rating are obviously a thinly veiled attempt to sell inappropriate material to kids. They must be banned to protect our children.
Corollary #2: Anyone who contradict Axiom #1 are lying.

Pfft optimist. Try this version:

...which will filter just as much, based on user reports?

Nah that second round is where they subtly slip in a government approval system and neglect to mention it
I heard that you can still find information about Tianamen square in china if you spell it wrong, so you guys are just going to have to spell it NLF Blits and hope you get around the Great Chinese Firewall.
Oh wait, you guys are in china right?
It's times like these that I am glad to live in New Zealand. Our government isn't perfect, but at least they are spending their time on things that are actually useful and important. Even if this proposal doesn't pass--and hopefully it won't--they will have wasted a lot of time and money looking into it.

I'm not sure how Australia's ratings board handles re-releases. With the ESRB the games have to be resubmitted and re-rated, and in many cases games can end up with lower ratings than they had back in the day (despite having the same content). If this is how the OFLC handles it then games on GOG and the like are technically unrated (possessing unrated material isn't illegal).
