Arkose: It's times like these that I am glad to live in New Zealand. Our government isn't perfect, but at least they are spending their time on things that are actually useful and important. Even if this proposal doesn't pass--and hopefully it won't--they will have wasted a lot of time and money looking into it.
I'm not sure how Australia's ratings board handles re-releases. With the ESRB the games have to be resubmitted and re-rated, and in many cases games can end up with lower ratings than they had back in the day (despite having the same content). If this is how the OFLC handles it then games on GOG and the like are technically unrated (possessing unrated material isn't illegal).
To further that, in the Rest Of Europe, it has to be resubmitted to the ratings body of the day. Right now, it's PEGI, and in my opinion they're more stricter than the last lot (for example, Zelda Ocarina Of Time was given a 3+ on the N64, yet the Virtual Console re-release was handed a 12+, for some strange reason). jamiehavok: i gues its not a coincidence that this comes at a time when australians have access to previously censored or banned games here on gog. would it actually be illegal in australia to download the uncut version of phantasmagoria here? or some other banned game? or gog to sell it to an australian?
