re. Amiga versions - I guess it depends on what you want. For me, the AGA versions always beats OCS/ECS, and I do not really see any reason messing wound with them... the main reason for me to get AF is to get legal 3.1 kickstarter. Yes, there is a large catalogue of games working on 1.3, and if it is A500 games you want then there is really no need to get anything else. I prefer A600 and A1200. All later games more or less needs at least 2.0 / 3.0 onwards.

re. The Company - Yes I know about them. I am also not sure about the legalities of the site, I think i saw a couple there which I know the right holders have not released the rights to... they work surprisingly well, though.

AFAIK all emulators are legal, unless they use copyrighted code or something. ROMs on the other hand - that's more of a gray area even if you own the original game in question.

Not to get off-topic, but that is not necessarily true. Most emulator creators go to great efforts to make sure they are free and clear of legal minefields, but there are cases where emulators have included illegal code, like PS2 BIOS I mentioned above.

You have any suggestions for some good AGA/CD32 titles? I had already converted to DOS gaming when that stuff came along so I don't know many titles from that late Amiga era, especially ones that weren't also available on other systems. Only Alien Breed 3D and Gloom come to my mind but as far as I can tell they are far far worse than the better shooters that were available on PC at the time.

Well, they boast with some piece of software developed by themselves so who knows, maybe they actually developed something that runs Amiga games without the need for the original Kick ROMs (like DosBox supposedly doesn't use any code of the original MS-DOS), haven't checked in detail yet. But yeah, I'm also pretty sure that they say "it's legal" with abandonware logic which is not good enough. I mean, they offer some titles which GOG has trouble to release in their DOS versions, so they probably treat not being threatened legally as "it's legal" and probably wouldn't get away with it if they were making money with that stuff.

Those are a few AGA only games (I think they are all AGA only... but it might need to be checker) , and then there are the lot which have enhanced (and superior) AGA versions, for example Superfrog, Syndicate and so on.

I do not think this will ever happen. Getting the rights for old games would be a severe pain in the ass. I say keep Amiga emullation free. In my opinion the best use of Cloanto's Amiga forever software is when you pair it with Classicwb. Adding WHDload to that environment makes it better than the original. Just my 2 cents.

Actually most of these games were originally released for the regular A500 (I even remember playing them on the original hardware). I didn't even know that so many of them had AGA versions.

Some of these, though, have PC versions that are fine and might be easier to get for GOG. D/Generation, for instance (which is a really good game and should be here however they get it).

Superfrog or Syndicate were not AGA enhanced at all. People just assumed it, because they were ported to the CD32, but there are exactly zero differences between those versions and the "ordinary" versions. Ignoring the the storage medium used (CD or diskettes), there were ultimately only one version of Superfrog and Syndicate.

99,9% of the classic Amiga games were not AGA enhanced. There weren't many AGA exclusive games either, and that's coming from someone who bought an A1200 very soon after release.

Oh, and last time there was a topic like this, I suggested that GOG could let you buy the kickstart roms individually, so that they didn't need to package them in each game. Once you buy, download and install the kickstart rom on your PC, every Amiga game you buy will look for the rom in a folder of your choice, and everything else could be automatic. Wouldn't be so difficult to achieve.

Also, I would suggest that they let you have the Amiga version included when buying a game on this site, for example for games like Pinball Fantasies, Superfrog and Cannon Fodder. And have notification every time you try to download the Amiga version that warns you that you have to have the kickstart rom.

In short, I think it's quite possible to achieve, if they wanted to. I'd love to have a place where I can buy and play digitally downloaded Amiga games legally, as I loved (and still do) the Amiga so much that I feel like a hypocrit playing illegal games on them (and I have quite a good number of legal titles as well).

Oh, and the Amiga version of Putty Squad were never released, only a demo of it. Putty (or Silly Putty some places) were though, but that didn't get an AGA version.

Putty Squad is finshed. It was a shame it was never given a official release, but the final build has been "leaked" by a couple of the developers. A little search, and you can get it. Maybe not completely legally, but in this case it was corporate mess which meant that a finished game did not see daylight, so I do not really care.

Edit: it seems it is not so easy getting Putty Squad any more, there seem to have been a purge, and there was a re-release on PS3 and i-devices last year. Coincidence?

I wonder would it really be financially viable to sell emulated games in GOG. Sure, there some pretty good games there, but all in all, I don't think the market would be that big.

Of course, one way would be to bundle games so, that they wold be more atractive, but again, I don't think there would be that many best sellers there.

Speaking of emulators etc but in a totally different context, is it a fool's hope to wish that one day it can be authorized to play SNES/Sega Megadrive games on PC? There were so many brilliant titles on those consoles, and a PC/Mac/Linux port would be a good way to preserve and remember those gems.

Not Really a lot of Companies allow there games to be used free legally. One that comes to mind is "Back to the Roots" where the Copyright holders give them permission to distribute games legally. Some Amiga game companies (like Team17 via Dream17) that allow you to download from them ( or someone they trust)
