tinyE: Just blow on him, he'll be fine.

keeveek: It's always awkward to be the only one in the room who doesn't get the joke... :(
Happens to me ten times a day, welcome to the party.
Jokes aside, this man was probably one of the awesomest people on the planet. I wish he was my grandfather.

I know being a son of Hideo Kojima is great as well, but still.

Amen to that. I just hope everything I owe to him wasn't lost with my stupid joke.

jjsimp: When plugging the game cartridges into the console they sometimes didn't work. You would blow into the end of the cartridge that plugs into the console, and then it would magically work again.

keeveek: Oh, thanks XD It's pretty hilarious now. I feel like those slow people who always laugh last, but that was great.

I was blowing on my cartridges too, it just didn't click me when referred to people... :P
Same here.

I'm guessing that if he had access to a time machine he would have gone back in time and insisted upon paying for better cartridge slots so as to end that joke once and for all.
Rest in peace.

It's not often a business person has such a good instinct in terms of development of not only what will be popular but what gamers will enjoy.
I read the N64 was a bad decision. Yes, maybe for Nintendo. Maybe for the company. But not for the gamers. I wouldn't want to miss Blast Corps or Banjo-Kazooie! And my awe when playing Ocarina of Time...
RIP Yamauchi-san. Nintendo was such a huge part of my childhood and young adulthood.
From playing cards to video games. RIP.

Is it sad that I wish I could say the same to apply to my adulthood and old age, but feel the current Nintendo just wouldn't mesh?
Sad indeed. When the next obscure but legendary PC dev dies, there better be some mourning.
+1 for tinyE, since everyone is doing it

Peter Molyneux? He seems like a man worth mourning.

And in ill taste, I jest:

The turnout was a bit less than expected, but 10,000 had been invited.

Yamauchi was a great businessman, but as far as his personal life was concerned.....well, let's just say most people wouldn't consider him a good role model.
Anyone wanting to know more about this guy should read "Game Over Press Start To Continue" where his impact on Nintendo is chronicled extensively.

jjsimp: I never understood that sentiment, unless you were slinging dirt at someone. I don't feel that is insulting the guy that brought so many people so much joy.
Me either. Then again I don't consider many things to be sacrosanct.

avatar
Darvond: Consider the context of 'blow on him' to someone who doesn't understand the jest.
Other people's understanding or lack thereof is their problem. It's not like we're at the guy's funeral.

He didn't really didn't know what gamers would enjoy. He left that to the experts he surrounded himself with. He was a pure businessman and the only game he was reported to play was Go.
