SCPM: The official teaser trailer is out now:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cSqi-8kAMmM Breja: Honestly, I think it looks terrible. Certainly looks and feels nothing like the Witcher. It looks more like a Game of Thrones knock-off (which I guess was always what they were going to go for). The Witcher isn't just any cliched dark fantasy. It has a peculiar mood, aesthetic, language. I fear all of that is entirely lost in this series. I certainly see none of it here. I had very low expectations and I'm still surprised just how bland and generic this looks. Nothing in this trailer was memorable, looked distinct in any way. And would it have killed them to focus a bit more on, you know, the damn witcher? This teaser makes it look like they are pulling a Battle of the Five Armies and make who is supposed to be the lead into a supporting character at best.
The funny thing is that the old Polish tv show, cheap though it was, with terrible special effects and all that, captured that mood and intangible feel of the Witcher world so much better. The music was great, the cast almost perfect and it wasn't all shot in dull grey-brown.
First, I loved the casting of the original Polish tv show... and really loved Geralt's origin story in the series. It was cheap and not always the most "professionally" made, but it was clear they were trying to be pretty respectful and make something good... even when they missed the mark.
TBH the Netflix trailer looks much better than I ever imagined, but IMO Cavill still looks completely mis-cast. I'd hoped the series would start as the stories -- with individual "monster" stories -- but seems they've instead gone full Game of Thrones bombast in this trailer. Dunno...
I'll watch, but certainly doesn't demand my attention or look / feel like I'd imagined
