Am I missing something? Where are the games that will run in native Window XP. All I see these days are Windows 7,8, & 10.

GOG's promise is that they provide games that will work on modern systems, not on legacy systems.

They support the games, not the operating systems.

There are a bunch of games here that will run on xp. Gog just won't support them because no one supports xp. It is a defunct OS. They don't support it for the same reason they don't support windows 95. Because expecting them to support something that is unsupported by everyone would be ridiculous.

That being said there are still a few titles that list xp support on their store page. I'm not sure how those fit within Gog's support stream.

Games are all here.
Some of them stopped working on XP due to Galaxy integration (Fallout: New Vegas, for example), but it is easy to fix them by hand (take steam_api.dll from any Steam game, rename it to GalaxyWrp.dll and move it to game's folder, overwriting the bundled GalaxyWrp.dll).

Works for me. Perfectly functions for older games. :)

XP is a long retired system.

Also in many cases, the thing they do to make the game work on modern systems results in it not working on XP and below.

Like others are suggesting, XP is almost 2 decades old and GOG focuses on modern OSes, especially when it comes to "old games on new machines". Many old games already run on old machines, so depending on the game you want maybe you could grab an original, non-GOG copy.

Amiga OS 3.9 works for me as well, in many ways better than Windows

I would not expect gOg to support it, though.....

I agree that it still works. I even said as much. My point was that it's not fair to expect Gog to continue support of older OSs. They have to draw a line somewhere and drawing it where everyone else does is reasonable.

Luckily, if people ask nicely in the forum there are quite a few people who run older OSs and are happy to help troubleshoot. That's one of the best things about this community.
For me, there is nothing better than running "period" games on a "period PC". In the past I've bought and download many games from Gog which were not Windows 7,8 & 10 enhanced. Everyone knows XP is obsolete, but it is also the best gaming platform ever made in my estimation. I don't do "DOS Box" I have a great collection of Steam games that I run under W10, but XP, W98 &W95 are special. Gog doesn't need to 'support" XP per se, just strip the damned DRM and let it go at that.

Have you considered using DOSbox since it's exactly purpose built to run old games?

And how do you feel about ScummVM and other wrappers, then?

I appreciate your take. Myself and many others build period PC's in order to run older games. That's what it's all about. We are not interested in running older games on current systems. Gog used to be a great resource for older DRM free games and occasionally, one stumbles across one here on the site. If you are a millennial, I can fully understand your views; you don't miss what you never had.

I had XP and don't miss it. I don't mind playing old games but I have no desire to hold onto old lame operating systems. Buy the disc if you want to authentic.

Lad, or lady. I was born after The Berlin Wall fell, and before the USSR formally collapsed. I dinnae have the time or money, nor the stowing space for all the equipment required for your kind of setup; not to mention old hardware like that could be such a pain up the [epithet].

It suits you just fine, and that's fine, but I'm more like Pixelmusement.

I've been playing games since before Windows or DOS were even a thing. I remember loading games from cassette tapes for crying out loud. Believe you me, I do NOT miss that at all. If I never have to use a pre-7 PC ever again, it's still too soon.
Almost every GOG game I've installed on my XP machine works fine, all of them except Quake 2 for some reason. Any GOG game that originally ran on XP will likely work just fine.
